The kids are long gone, you're sick of shoveling snow, mowing the lawn, you're tired of paying to
heat and cool a large home. Why not downsize? With downsizing however, comes hard decisions.
Stay nearby or leave town? Condo or single-family home? Making the wrong move will cost you -and
maybe you'll have to relocate once again. According to a recent survey conducted by Merrill Lynch in
entitled "Home in Retirement" the top four reasons for downsizing are:
1. Lower Monthly Housing Costs
2. Larger Home is Too Much work
3. Fewer Family Members in the Household
4. Want to Free up Cash from Prior Home
At Parkbridge communities, we take care of time consuming tasks of mowing the lawn and shoveling
the driveway to allow our home owners the ability to focus on enjoying retirement and doing the
things that are most important to them. Another key aspect of a Parkbridge community is the social
interaction. Parkbridge offers vibrant social activities and a wide variety of expertly managed services
and amenities.

Wawanosh 4-H Club shows off their baked goods before snack time.
Wawanosh 4-H 'Batier Up'
Club gets baking during
July 8 meeting in Auburn
Maisy Jefferson
Contributor
The Wawanosh 4-H
club got together for their
first meeting for their
'Batter Up' club on July 8
at the Auburn Hall.
As members were arriv-
ing they were given the task
of matching a'Baked Good'
name to its description plus
complete a judging activity
on proper footwear for the
kitchen.
Mary Ellen Foran
opened the meeting with
the 4-H pledge and then
had the members read
out their 'Baked Good'
match. Everyone but one
leader had found the cor-
rect description for their
baked good. Mary Ellen
then passed out different
baking pans and utensils.
Members were to iden-
tify the item and what it
was used for.
Next, Eileen George did
a measuring demonstra-
tion for the members so
that they knew how to cor-
rectly measure out fats,
and wet and dry ingredi-
ents. Cathy Drennan edu-
cated the members on
what different ingredients
such as fats, flour, and
leaveners do in a recipe.
The club then divided into
their baking group for
three different brownies
recipes. Members recited
the 'Baker's Beliefs' that
included - always read the
recipe before you start.
One group made brown-
ies from a boxed mix,
another from scratch
using the oven and the last
group made microwave
brownies, from scratch.
While the brownies
were baking, the club
did the election of offic-
ers. Jolande Oudshoorn
was elected President
with Abby Robinson as
her Vice. Gayle McIl-
hargey volunteered to
be Cover Designer and
Maisy Jefferson has the
job of Press Reporter.
Grace Hallahan was
chosen to be the
Attendance Recorder
for the meetings. All
remaining members
who did not have an
executive position, were
given a meeting to write
up the Secretary
Minutes.
The club again divided
into their baking groups
and began making muf-
fins. Once the Ontario
Berry Muffins, Peanut
Butter and Jam Muffins
and Basic Bran Muffins
were in the oven, the
members went outside to
the playground for a
game of Grounders. They
deserved a break from all
of their hard work. The
Leaders were to watch
the oven timer for
muffins.
After 20 minutes of
play, the members were
called back in and read
through the healthy bak-
ing tips found in their
book.
The club discussed
the different healthier
substitutes suggested
in the book and ones
they had used when
baking at home. Sub-
stituting some whole
wheat flour for white
flour and using apple-
sauce, fruit and vegeta-
bles is also a way to
add fibre to your bak-
ing. At this time the
muffins had cooled off
enough to be enjoyed
by the club. Jolande
closed the meeting
with the motto and the
members helped them-
selves to their brown-
ies and muffins.
The overall preferences
out of the brownie reci-
pes were the brownies
made from the bought
brownie mix and for the
muffins, thePeanut But-
ter and Jam Muffins.
The next meeting will
be held on July 21 at the
Auburn Hall at 7 p.m.
Members will be making
and baking cakes.
