St. Joseph's Kingsbridge Community purchases former church on Hwy 21
Dear Editor,
Wow, what a difference a year
can make! It was June 2015 -
after 2.5 years of negotiations -
that the St Joseph's Kingsbridge
Community (SJKC) registered
charity purchased the former
Catholic church on Hwy 21 in
northern Huron County.
Thanks to 269 volunteers (so
far!) and our individual and
business sponsors, the goal of
reopening this historical build-
ing as a multi -use facility is well
under way, with many events
planned and rental opportuni-
ties available.
The former rectory has been
refurbished, and is now availa-
ble as Kingsbridge in the Coun-
try, a four-bedroom cottage
rental. The upstairs of the for-
mer church, renamed Kings-
bridge Centre, is now open for
community and cultural events,
while renovations continue in
the basement of the building.
A summer concert series has
begun and the current schedule
includes local groups ( eg the
Sideliners July 8, and Reynolds,
Robinson and Lodge July 23),
Waterloo's Schneiders male
chorus in September, and( in
conjunction with the Goderich
Celtic Roots Festival), the
international group "Bua" per-
forms Wednesday Aug. 3.
The Kingsbridge Centre also
serves as a community hub,
with many events planned,
including an ecumenical multi -
church service Sunday Aug. 14
followed by a community bar-
beque. Open yoga classes occur
every Tuesday at 7 p.m, while a
new ladies group - the Kings-
bridge Hens - has reserved the
2nd Wednesday of every month.
In response to everyone's
inquiries, we are excited to
announce that the Kingsbridge
Centre will be open Saturdays in
July and August from 10:30 a.m.
to 1:30 p.m. so you can peek in
and see what's happening.
Drop on by, see the changes,
browse the new gift shop, and
share our vision.
New events for the 2016 sea-
son are still being booked, so be
sure to keep checking www.stjo-
sephskingsbridge.com, for the
complete schedules and
updates, see The Plan for the
building, and follow the link to
our Facebook page St. Joseph's
Kingsbridge Community to see
all the action.

LUCKNOW NEWS
Lucknow marks Canada's 149th anniversary celebration
Ruth Dobrensky
Friday was Canada Day, so
happy 149th birthday to all of
us Canadians, old and new.
Next year there should be
lots of happy events celebrat-
ing our 150th. Those of my
generation won't live to see
the 200th celebrations, so it
would be great to see lots of
parades, fireworks, and fun
happening all over the
country.
The Lucknow Legion held its
annual Fish Fry on Canada
Day, and as usual it was well
attended and the food was
delicious.
Many happy returns and
happy 65th anniversary to Alice
and Clarence Ritchie who cele-
brated this past
weekend.
Celebrating their 60th anni-
versary with a trip to Ottawa for
Canada Day were Lois and Ken
Chaput. What a great way to
celebrate.
Congratulations also to
Nancy and Gerald Murray who
celebrated their 50th anniver-
sary this past weekend.
Coming soon to Lucknow is
Dave Farrish Day, the day
includes a dinner and silent
auction and features guest
speakers Pat Hickey and Dave
Farrish himself. Looks like a
good event to attend. For those
of you who don't know, both
Pat and Dave played in the
NHL and Dave is still involved
in the NHL as assistant coach
for the Colorado Avalanche
team.
As usual the way of local pol-
itics runs slowly and the work
supposed to be done on our
main street is now being put off
until next year. I'm still waiting
for the dead-end street I live on
to be repaved, it was supposed
to be done in 2010.
Now that summer has offi-
cially arrived, take care in the
sun and heat, relax and enjoy
the weather while we can, it'll
be snowing again before we
know it.
Sympathies of the commu-
nity to the families of: Ronald
Pollock, 61, Ripley; and, Bill
Gibson, 78, Wingham.
