The recent Walk and Talk
in the Chesley Cemetery was
very well attended.
Glenys Johnson reviewed
the early history of the cern-
etery which was established
in 1891. The entrance was
upgraded with new gates in
1977. Everyone was invited
to walk with the presenters
to selected grave stones. Gle-
nys shared details of the
James Hammond family
whose members were noted
for their musical ability.
Anne Goeden chose a very
unique gravestone which is
in memory of a David Taylor
family. Doug Lennox high-
lighted history of his Ward
family ancestors. Bob Mur-
phy represented the Murphy
family which has resided in
Chesley for six generations,
each generation having sev-
eral talented hockey players.
History of the McClure -
Elliot family connection was
related by Faye Bell McClure.
The McClure Mill which was
built in 1881 is here Bob, son
of Bill and Faye McClure
operates a feed and fertilizer
business at this time. Ron
Oswald's ancestor William
Oswald Sr. was among the
early settlers in Elderslie
Township. The Oswald fam-
ily journeyed on to North
Dakota for a number of years
but returned to resettle in
Elderslie.
William McDonald who
was born on the 7th Conces-
sion of Elderslie was a very
public minded citizen who
served as Clerk -Treasurer of
the Town of
Chesley, Secretary Treasurer
of Chesley High School as
well as the Chesley Fall Fair
for a number of years. He
published the Chesley Enter-
prise from 1891 until 1939.
Sylvia Hasbury presented
the highlights of his life.
Glenys Johnson shared a
tribute to the Krug family
noting their involvement in
the manufacture of furniture
in Chesley for 101 years.
Peter Krug and his wife
Annie were German immi-
grants Their sons Conrad
and Christian along with
other family members
arrived in Chesley in 1886
and proceeded to establish
their business and build
many fine homes in the vil-
lage. Howard and Bruce
Krug were among those of
the next generation to carry
on the Krug interest in furni-
ture. Howard Krug had a life-
long passion for the study of
nature, the Bruce Trail
Organization and the Bruce
County Historical Society.
His brother Bruce dedicated
his life to recording and col-
lecting local history. Photo-
graphs, books and artifacts
were included in his vast
collection.
Mary MacKay directed our
attention to a gravestone in
memory of her McCurdy
ancestors. Family lore states
that the fine tombstone may
have been purchased from a
travelling salesman. Her
research causes her to ques-
tion some of the details
'written in stone'. Grave-

The event takes place
Monday, July 11, 2016 and
leaves the Bruce County
Museum and Cultural Cen-
tre at 7 p.m. All are Welcome.

MORRISON, Gordon - Of Lucknow,
died at the Wingham Hospital on June 18,
2016 in his 100th year. Beloved husband of
the late Phyllis (Blake) who predeceased
him in 2002. Gordon dearly loved his family
and his church. He was a devout member
of Lucknow United Church. Dear father of
Laurine & Paul Tremaine of Parry Sound,
Murray & Jo -Anne of Collingwood, Lloyd
and Glenda, of Lucknow, Barry & Coralyn
of Newmarket, Roger & Vicky, Daughter-in-
law Sandra, and Karl all of Lucknow, and
Kay & Jerry Logtenberg of RR1,
Dungannon. Missed by his 16
grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by his son Ralph and brother
Melvin. Visitation was held at MacKENZIE
& McCREATH FUNERAL HOME, Lucknow
on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 6:00 - 9:00
PM, and on Tuesday from 1:00 until the
time of the Funeral Service at 2:00 PM.
Rev. Lynne Wilson officiating. Anne
Pritchard was organist. Grandchildren acted
as pallbearers and flower bearers.
Interment Greenhill Cemetery. Donations to
the Lucknow United Church were
appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
