South Kinloss Presbyterian Church celebrates 160 years and counting
On a warm beautiful Sunday
afternoon June 12, South Kinloss
Presbyterian Church celebrated
their 160th year as a congregation.
Present were over 100 to witness
a service befitting its long history in
the community. Celebrants came
from far and wide to be here and
enjoy re -connecting with many
who were a part of this congrega-
tion over the past years.
Reverend David Chung's mes-
sage conveyed to all present the
amazing history and how a large
number of those present were
either baptized or were married in
South Kinloss church. The congre-
gation continues to look forward to
many more years as they adapt to
the future.
Music was provided by Murray
and Wanda Keith and Simon and
Marita Taylor of Goderich along
with a selection by the South Kin-
loss Choir, accompanied by Wilma
Clark on organ and Dale Gilchrist
on piano.
Several were able to attend ser-
vice enabled by the newly -installed
chair lift and we were happy to see
them able to attend service once
again.
Following service an anniversary
cake and ice cream were served as
many reviewed the years of histori-
cal documents and photo displays
as well as enjoy a social time and
reminisce with fellow attendees.
As part of this anniversary, a
commemorative cookbook has
been produced by the congrega-
tion and is available for sale at
Holyrood General Store at a cost of
$10.

Huron County urges public to be sharp about environmental clean-up
The Huron County Health Unit is
reminding people to be careful
picking up any sharp object that
may be found in your
environment.
Sharp objects, such as used nee-
dles, razor blades or any item that
could cut skin should be handled
carefully. Parents should tell chil-
dren to never touch anything sharp
and to tell an adult.
Adults can safely pick up a sharp
object by the following steps:
Get a free sharps container if you
find a needle. Call the health unit at
519-482-3416 or after hours at 519-
482-7077 to ask where in your com-
munity you can get the container
and where you can take it when
you have put the sharp object in.
If that is not possible, bring a
non -breakable, puncture proof
container with a screw-top lid to
where the sharp object is. Use a
thick plastic jar, empty bleach bot-
tle or water bottle.
Use pliers, tongs or tweezers to
pick up the object.
If it is a needle, hold the needle
tip away from you.
Put the needle into the container
needle end first.
Close the container tightly.
Wash your hands.
Take the container to the site rec-
ommended by the health unit.
Like all health units in Ontario,
the Huron County Health Unit
offers a needle exchange program
with community partners in the
county. Needle exchange programs
help ensure that injection drug
users have access to sterile injec-
tion equipment to prevent
transmission of HIV, hepatitis B,
hepatitis C and other blood-borne
diseases.
The health unit distributes thou-
sands of free needles each year to
Huron County residents who are
injection drug users.
The program is currently offered
at three sites in the county. Used
needles can be returned to the sites
for safe disposal.
Kincardine Family Health Team introducing Afterhours' service for minor health issues
The Kincardine Family Health
Team (KFHT) has announced the
expansion of primary care services
that will soon be offered to resi-
dents of the Municipality of Kincar-
dine and Township of
Huron -Kinloss.
The Afterhours Service has been
established and will be available to
the community and patients of the
Family Health Team.
A Nurse Practitioner (NP)
within the KFHT will see patients
with non -emergent conditions
that require immediate atten-
tion. The Afterhours Service is
open to anyone in our
community.
No appointment is required and
will operate on a first-come, first-
served basis.
The Afterhours Service will be
operational on scheduled Mon-
days and Thursdays from 5-8
p.m. and is intended for patients
experiencing an acute illness or
injury. Visits are short and are
meant to address one problem at
a time.
An Afterhours visit would be
appropriate for minor injuries, viral
illness, sick children, skin rashes,
minor burns, minor infections,
small wounds, cough, fever, etc.
Visits that are not appropriate for
Afterhours would include: chronic
illness (old injuries, maintenance
of diabetes etc.), medication
adjustments, routine medication
refills, requests for lab test or pro-
cedure results, routine blood pres-
sure checks, severe pain requiring
narcotic medications, complete
physicals, and physical assess-
ments required for work or school
etc.
"Implementation of the After-
hours Service is part of our com-
mitment to improve access to
ensure the right care, at the right
time, at the right place is available
for when patients are in need of
immediate care for non -urgent
concerns," said Gerry Glover,
chief executive officer of the Kin-
cardine Family Health Team. "The
Afterhours Service is not
designed, nor intended, to
replace appointments with your
primary care provider; but rather,
to augment the patient -centered
experience through increased
access and delivery of healthcare
services?'

Once the available appointment
time slots have been filled, the
Afterhours Service will close,
appropriate signage posted and
the doors locked.
