Peter Kelly/Submitted Kincardine's Peter Kelly captured this photo of the black bear in a neighbour's tree on June 1, 2016. The animal was tranquilized by Ministry of Natural Resources staff and was relocated for release on the Bruce Peninsula, north of Wiarton. Black bear relocated to Bruce Peninsula Troy Patterson Editor A bear touring the Kincar- dine area recently is on its way to a new home. On June 1, 2016 at 6:38 a.m., the South Bruce OPP received a report of a bear sighting on Adelaide Street near the south end of Kincardine. Officers kept observation of the bear as it moved into a bush area south of Kincar- dine Avenue. After receiving more reports of bear sightings in Kincardine, the Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR) was contacted. Elgin Street resident Peter Kelly snapped photos of the animal climbing a tree on his neighbour's property, as the animal looked down from a high branch. At 10:42 a.m. on June 1, 2016 the bear was captured via a tranquilizer round by a Conservation Officer. It was then carried away for reloca- tion to a more suitable area on the Bruce Peninsula, north of Wiarton. "I met the MNR in Tiver- ton at noon today," Melanie Roppel said in a facebook post. "They caught a young male bear, on the south side of Kincardine near the cem- etery. He is currently on his way to be relocated on the Bruce Peninsula" PRESCRIPTION DRUG DROP OFF DAY A SUCCESS The OPP is calling the recent Prescription Drug Drop Off Day across the province a huge success. Over 40 OPP detachments participated this year across Ontario. A total of 150 kilo- grams of prescription medica- tions were received by the OPP from the public who par- ticipated in this public health and safety awareness initiative on Saturday, May 21. Locally, the South Bruce OPP offered drop off points in Kincardine and in Walker- ton. A total of 6 kilograms of prescription medications were received. The success of this initia- tive is measured by the pub- lic awareness generated in our communities in regards to the dangers associated with unused prescription medications. Better awareness of the dangers of unused or expired medications means that peo- ple are increasingly making a greater effort to take prescrip- tion drugs back to the phar- macy where they can easily be disposed of in an environ- mentally friendly manner. Continued vigilance by those who are in possession of drugs that can be danger- ous when they fall into the hands of those for whom they were not intended, will help to curb this public safety issue. POLICE LOOKING FOR STOLEN VEHICLE On May 31, 2016 at 3:18 p.m., the South Bruce OPP received a report of a vehicle theft from the Daisy Mart parking lot located along Clinton Street south in Teeswater. Between 3:00 p.m. on May 31, 2016 and 3:15 p.m. on May 31, 2016, a Silver Dodge Caravan with licence #BEHC120 was taken. There is no estimate on the value of the stolen vehicle at this time. Anyone with information should call police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or submit a secure web -tip at www.crimestop- persgb.ca PARK THEATRE 4 OODERICI-C 519 524 7811 FOR MOVIE IIIIFORMAroON.rr wwFw.rnavlelinks.Da i-800,185-34313
