HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 2016-01-13, Page 7Three weeks of snowy events in store if weather holds out Troy Patterson Editor If the snow holds out this weekend and next, two Stoney Island Conservation Area events will draw dozens of people for skiing and snow - shoeing Jan. 16 and 24. And on Jan. 30, 2016 the Kin- cardine Kids Toboggan Grand Prixwill offer a chance at a new fun winter event for families. The three events are all weather -dependent, and any changes in date or condition will be reported on Kincardine Tourism's and Penetangear's facebook pages. The Kincardine Commu- nity Loppet is planned for Sat- urday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. The free event is designed for cross-country skiers of all ages and experience levels. Vistors are invited to take a lei- surely ski around the groomed trails at Stoney Island, led by Kincardine Cross -Country Ski Club experts, who will be there to help. After the tour warm enjoy a free hot apple cider or hot choc- olate to warm up in front of a fire in the club's hut. Participants are asked to bring their own equipment, or borrow a pair of skis and boots from the club. The event is located at Stoney Island Conservation Area, 5 km north of Kincardine on Bruce Road 23. For more information con- tact Glen at 519-396-6552. The Penetangear Com- munity Snowshoe event takes place Sunday, Jan. 24, 2015 at 2 p.m. Participants are welcome to grab their snowshoes and come out to Stoney Island and enjoy the snow. The free event is for all ages and all experience levels. Snowshoers will tour around Stoney Islands dedicated snow shoe trails, with guidance from experts from the Kincardine Cross -Country Ski Club. Warm up in the club's hut with hot cider and hot choco- late in front of the fire after the event, sponsored by Pene- tangear - Kincardine's Casual, Outdoor and Active store. The event is also located at Stoney Island Conservation Area, 5 km north of Kincardine on Bruce Road 23. For more information contact Penetangear at 519-396-7791. A new event, the Pene- tangear Kids Toboggan Gran Prixwill offer fun, competition and prizes for the whole family on Saturday, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m. Children are invited down to Alps Park on the Kincardine Trails System for a 'toboggan race to remember' Participants are asked to reg- ister at Penetangear 791 Queen Street Kincardine by Jan. 28 and bring their fastest toboggan to the race, for a chance to be crowned king or queen of the hill for their age groups. McDonald's Kincardine will be giving out treats as a sponsor, alongside Penetangear. Call the contact num- bers prior to events for any information. Scone players enjoy crokinole in Paisley Four tables of sharp shooters showed up for battle at the Paisley Legion on Saturday, Jan. 9. Neil Cook was the host and he graciously sat out, as he was an extra player. It was great to see a new player join us, that being Ev Pearce from Paisley. Everyone was in a new year spirit but took no mercy on their opponents. The results of the afternoon were as follows: White card top player was Clare Kuepfer with 52 points, Peter Carter was sec- ond with 39 and Cathy Kuepfer captured third with 36. The white card twenties leader was Clare with 33 fol- lowed by Cathy and Peter tied for second with 15 and Carman Hodgkinson and Lloyd Thomp- son placed third with 14 another tie. As for the yellow card players it was Jo -Ann Carter and Al Carter tied for first with 43 points, Marilyn Thompson secured second place with 35 points and Evelyn Hodgkinson tookthirdwith 28. As for the yellow card players twenties, Al lead the way with 31, Carol Cook nailed down second with 21 and Len Zettler and Jo- Ann tied for third with 14. Door prizes were won by Evelyn, Marilyn, Doreen Su]kye, Cathy, Lloyd and Francis Zettler. There was a great deal of interest by several players to participate in the Golden Horseshoe Tourna- ment in Hamilton on Jan. 30. The players were all reminded our next day of competition will be Sat. Jan. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Church Hall in Teeswater. Ripley Wolves Hall of Fame to welcome four new names Dwight Irwin Ripley Wolves The Ripley Wolves will add four more names to their Wall of Fame on Jan. 16. Bill Cameron, Kent Lid- dle, Russ O'Handley and Travis VanGaver will be honoured for their contri- butions to the Ripley Wolves during Saturday's home game against Shal- low Lake. Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m. Cameron was a long- time member of the Wolves executive, and the team's Assistant General Manager. Although Bill has resigned from the executive, his work ethic and dedication to the Wolves carries on through the current members.
