A Valentine's Bervie WI report
Submitted by Islay Eby
Valentine's was the theme
when the Bervie Women's Insti-
tute (WI) met at the Bervie
United Church Wednesday, Feb.
3, at 10 a.m.
Islay Eby read a poem, "This is
Love," followed by the usual
openings. Eleven members
answered the roll call "Where
did you go on your first date?"
The Bruce County Museum in
Southampton is having a Family
Day event on Feb. 15 from 8:30
a.m. to 4 p.m.
Our Quincy books, teddy
bears and blankets will be pre-
sented later this month to the
Kincardine OPP and fire depart-
ment. These are to be presented
to children who are impacted by
an accident or a fire.
Donations will be made to the
Kincardine and Tiverton fall
fairs.
A memorial donation will be
sent to the Erland Lee Home in
memory of Vi Thompson's hus-
band, Alvin.
Meeting ideas for this coming
year are to be given to Dianne
Wilson and Betty Jean White.
Our convenor, Betty Ann
Thompson, read a Valentine's
poem and everyone did a Valen-
tine's word search. Betty Ann
then did a travelogue of her and
Brian's trip last November to the
Sydney and Brisbane area of
Australia and the south island of
New Zealand. They toured with
Brian's sister, Joyce, and her
family in Australia - a very inter-
esting presentation.
The next meeting will be at
Betty Jean White's on March 2 at
7:30 p.m. - Please bring your
husbands along to this meeting.

'Premature' to
call it EMS merger
talks, Grey County's
warden says
Denis Langlois
Postmedia
Grey County Warden Al Bar -
foot says it's too early to call it
an investigation into a potential
service amalgamation.
"I think it's premature to use
that type of wording until we
actually meet and put every-
thing on the table to know what
we're discussing," he said in an
interview, after county council
voted Tuesday to share the cost
with Bruce County of hiring a
project facilitator to explore
whether or not it would benefit
the two municipalities to create
a shared service agreement for
paramedic services.
The motion also directs the
two counties to set up a joint
steering committee to oversee
the service analysis.
"The primary purpose of the
project would be to determine
whether there is an opportunity
for the two counties to realize
efficiencies and economies of
scale through a shared service
arrangement and, if so, the gov-
ernance model which would
best support this," says a staff
report to Grey County council.

War Amps champ
outlines benefits of
program
Dear Editor,
I am a partial right hand ampu-
tee and a member of The War
Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP)
Program. I recently received a
piano device thanks to public sup-
port of The War Amps Key Tag
Service.
I can now play chords with
both hands simultaneously and
engage my right hand to its full
capacity. I have also found some
unconventional uses for my
device, such as using it to style
my hair with hot tools. Artificial
limbs have helped stretch my
capabilities and allowed me to
Bruce County, which
approached Grey first about the
study, must still pass its own
motion before the facilitator is
hired and committees are
struck.
It is still unclear when the
motion will be presented to
Bruce County council.
"Other counties have looked
at this between their borders
and what's being recommended
here is that Grey and Bruce look
at the same," Barfoot said.
The study will take close to six
months to complete.
The two services "bear a lot of
similarity," the Grey County
report says.
Barfoot said Tuesday that one
of the most significant things is
that unionized employees for
both departments are members
of the Ontario Public Service
Employees' Union.
Last April, Huron and Perth
counties engaged in a review to
consider a potential merger. The
two municipalities ended up
deciding not to amalgamate
their departments after a work-
ing group found that costs
would actually increase if the
merger took place.
do things I initially believed were
out of reach.
2016 marks the 70th anniver-
sary of The War Amps Key Tag
Service and to date, more than
1.5 million sets of lost keys have
been returned to their owners.
Although it is a free service,
donations provide young ampu-
tees with financial assistance for
artificial limbs and, while grow-
ing up, allow us to go to regional
seminars with our parents where
we learn about the latest in artifi-
cial limbs and meet others just
like us.
Thank you to everyone who
has supported The War Amps
Key Tag Service, which has
helped Canadian amputees like
me for the past 70 years.
Sincerely,
Camila Rusiecki
