earns 2016 Personal Training
Specialist of the Year title
Nadine VandenHeuvel has earned
the Personal Training Specialist of
the Year 2016 award at the canfitpro
World Fitness Expo in Toronto.
A local personal trainer and
owner of Fit Body Boot Camp loca-
tions in Goderich and Kincardine,
VandenHeuvel was presented the
industry award during the event on
Aug. 10-14, 2016 at the Metro
Toronto Convention Centre.
"I'm just so excited and hon-
oured to even be recognized;" said
VandenHeuvel.
After applying for the nomina-
tion, VandenHeuvel made it into
the Top 5 and was asked to submit
a short video of her interacting with
her clients.
Based on her video and the ini-
tial nomination materials, canfit-
pro selected her as a top three
finalist, then announced her vic-
tory at an awards ceremony at the
canfitpro world fitness expo.
In her video, VandenHeuvel
emphasized the deep emotional
impact her training has on clients.
"We had a client that said this
week, `I'm wearing a tank top. I
haven't done this in years," said
VandenHeuvel. "It's the small
things like that. That's my why. And
that's what I keep pushing on my
staff as well:'
As an award winner, Van-
denHeuvel received a $2,500 prize
from fitchek.com, along with an
invitation to the canfitpro 2017 Pre-
senter Team. She will also be given
highlights in both canfitpro maga-
zine and Inside Fitness.

franchise of indoor fitness boot
camps, whose global goal is to
engage 20% of the world's popula-
tion in a healthy and fit lifestyle by
the year 2020.
Bruce Power partners with four colleges to keep flow of qualified workers
Bruce Power has announced a
partnership with four Ontario col-
leges on six diploma programs to
help ensure a steady flow of quali-
fied candidates for the company's
workforce.
"We want to ensure that people
attending college with a goal of
employment at Bruce Power as an
Operator, Maintainer or Technician
have options identified that will
help with this goal," said Chip
Horton, vice president of nuclear
operations support division and
executive sponsor for establishing
the partnerships. "Although we are
pleased to announce these part-
nerships, it is important to note
that throughout this selection pro-
cess Bruce Power was impressed
with the excellent programs availa-
ble at colleges throughout the prov-
ince for people seeking employ-
ment in our industry and graduates
from all colleges will continue to be
tapped for future employees."
The colleges and programs
selected are: Lambton College in
Sarnia for the Chemical Production
and Power Engineering Technol-
ogy program, Instrumentation and
Control Engineering Technology
program and Mechanical Techni-
cian Industrial Millwright program;
Georgian College in Owen Sound
for the Power Engineering

The centre will continue to support small business owners
and entrepreneurs through a variety of services including:

College in Barrie for the Electrical
Engineering Technology program;
St. Clair College in Windsor for the
Chemical Laboratory Technology
program; and Algonquin College in
Pembroke for the Applied Nuclear
Science and Radiation Safety
program.
Graduates from these six pro-
grams, in addition to a college
diploma, will eventually be eligible
to receive certification under the
Nuclear Uniform Curriculum Pro-
gram, a standardized certificate
program developed to help ensure
potential nuclear plant workers
study an industry -approved
curriculum.
Additionally, students in the
partner programs will be offered
field or cooperative experiences
that are consistent with the pro-
gram description including oppor-
tunities at Bruce Power.
These new partnerships are an
important addition to our Bruce
Power scholarship program that
has for the past six years offered
$50,000 in scholarships to students
pursuing post -secondary educa-
tion in Bruce, Grey and Huron
counties.
Students who are enrolled in a
skilled -trade program, college or
university for the 2016/17 aca-
demic year are invited to apply for
one of 100, $500 scholarships.
The scholarship program builds
on existing commencement
awards for Grade 8 and high school
graduates, as well as two scholar-
ships for Aboriginal students and
demonstrates the company's com-
mitment to youth development
and education. The program's aim
is to reach as many students as
possible with a one-time monetary
pledge of support during their aca-
demic studies.
In 2016, Bruce Power will invest
$100,000 in scholarships and com-
mencement awards for students
throughout our region.
Grey Bruce Labour Council and
affiliates to march in Labour Day Parade
The Grey Bruce Labour Council
and its affliate unions are set to march
in the 2016 Labour Day Parade.
The annual event takes place Sept. 5,
2016 in downtown Port Elgin, as a
reminder of the positive impacts of
union in communities across Canada,
with concepts including equality, fair-
ness, sustainability, dignity, safety that
are important in everyworkforce.
The 11 a.m. parade begins at Home
Hardware and heads south, and is fol-
lowed by a lunch and activities at the
UniforFamilyEducation Centre, along
with a number of guest speakers.
"Nationally and provincially labour
is working with our partners through
the Fairness Works campaigns to
make sure that all of society enjoys the
benefits that Canada has to offer, said
Labour Council president Kevin
Smith. "Too often, the greatest bene-
fits of this wonderful national are held
in too few hands and Canada's Labour
Movement is committed to ensuring
all Canadians enjoy a life in Canada
