The Lucknow Sentinel, 2016-08-31, Page 5Wednesday, August 31, 2016 • Lucknow Sentinel 5 ACW's Taylors win classic Dodge at 2016 Moparfest Darryl Coote Reporter For 12 years the Taylors have been participating in New Hamburg, Ontario's Moparfest, Canada's largest all Mopar car show, and for 12 years neither of them have come close to winning the festival's annual car draw. That all changed on their lucky 13th year participating in the festival. To have a chance to win the car, one must have a classic Mopar car (a vehicle by the Fiat Chrysler com- pany) entered into the show, which both Roy and Marion Taylor did. He, a '74 Barra- cuda; and she, a '74 Dart. Then during the festival, which this year ran from Aug. 20-21, 2016, 10 names are pulled from a drum. The owners of the names are each then given a key, one of which starts the car. And the car -- This year it was a slick black 1967 Dodge Coronet 500. A two -door hardtop with a 318 wide block and a three -speed transmission and with fewer than 16,000 kms on it. In other words, it's a beaut. Roy's name was one of the 10 pulled this year. And when he put the key he was given into the car's ignition and the engine turned over and to life, Roy jumped higher than he had in sometime. "I jumped out of the car immediately and jumped about three feet into the air and I went, Yes!" he said with his left arm thrust into the air. "We were both scream- ing," said Marion. "And the wife was on the other side of the stone fence and she was trying to climb the stone fence," said Roy. "To get over," said Marion. "Awesome. Just awesome," said Roy. They had just driven the classic car back to their ACW home the day they spoke to The Sentinel on Aug. 24. "It's got a nice rumble to it," Marion said. The self professed "Dodge people" bought their first car by the company back in '74 -- a Dodge Duster -- which is the same year they married. Their two other classic cars were also built that same year and sort of signifies the year's importance to the couple. "That was our first brand new car and we've had a Chrysler ever since," said Roy. And unlike a lot of people with antique and classic cars, you won't see the Tay- lors on their front lawn with diapers babying a shine from their cars' chrome. However, you'll have a better chance eyeing them cruising the streets of ACW, Kincardine and Huron -Kinloss. "We like to drive them," said Marion. "We enjoy just driving them," continued Roy. "Pretty much every weekend we say eeny, meeny, miny, moe, and take one of them."
