'Transfiguration' exhibition at Bruce Power and Bruce County establish new
Blyth Festival Art Gallery
Beginning on August 12, a
former FE Madill student will
be the featured artist at the
Blyth Festival Art Gallery. Mon-
tina Hussey is a BFA graduate of
the Ontario College of Art and
Design and recently completed
her studies in Florence, Italy on
a Study Abroad Program.
The public can view Mon-
tina Hussey's challenging
exhibition in the Bainton
Gallery, Blyth Memorial
Hall, from Aug. 12 to Sept. 3.
"Transfiguration: A Case
Study on Epigenetic Memory"
is presented by the Blyth Festi-
val Art Gallery and is sure to
intrigue visitors to the gallery.
Epigenetic memory is
defined as a set of modifica-
tions to DNA that does not
alter its sequence, and have
been inherited from the cell
from which it descends. Such
modifications can alter gene
expression and therefore the
properties and behaviour of
the cell. In human terms, it
suggests that events in the
lives of one's ancestors may
influence the lives of
descendants, even though
they are not conscious of
those past events.
"Last summer I came
across archives of photo-
graphs and film stills of my
grandparents from the
1920s," Hussey said. "As I

fered a pang of nostalgia for a
time I never experienced."
The photographs triggered
painful memories from her
own life experiences and Mon-
tina hopes to transform them
into healing through her paint-
ings. Her subjects include alco-
holism, depression, anxiety
and the past and present
trauma of our First Nations.
The exhibit is curated by
Greg Sherwood and spon-
sored by Joan Perrie. The gal-
lery is located next to the
Blyth Festival box office and
is open during box office
hours. Admission is free.

Bruce Power and the County
of Bruce have teamed up to
establish and support a new
regional economic develop-
ment and innovation initiative.
The goal of the initiative is
to leverage economic oppor-
tunities for local communi-
ties given the multi-year,
multi -billion investment
program announced by
Bruce Power last December.
"Given the large-scale invest-
ment, training and job creation
opportunities of Bruce Power's
multi-year investment pro-
gram, we all recognized the
importance of establishing a
consolidated, co-ordinated
approach to economic devel-
opment as it relates to the com-
pany's investment activities and
other opportunities for innova-
tion," said Kelley Coulter, Bruce
County's chief administrative
officer. "Bruce Power has
always had a positive and
engaging working relationship
with its neighbours. This
approach is not only practical

established this fall with the
goal of bringing together key
leaders and organizations
from across the region to sup-
port the development of a stra-

to advance a number of imme-

this Advisory Committee will
be to provide input and advice
on the development and

to facilitate opportunities.
"To be successful with our

together our region in a way
that will allow us to leverage
