The gallery welcomes Judy Brady
as our Guest Artist for the month of
August, a busy month for the arts in
Goderich with craftsmen, artists,
and musicians in town for Celtic
Festival week.
Brady's beautiful, and colourful
pieces can't help but add to the
creative ambiance.
We invite you to join us for an
opening reception on Saturday Aug.
6, from 2-4 p.m. to welcome Brady
and her colourful, inventive art.
If you haven't recently visited,
"Scene in Goderich"; at the CoOp
Gallery, it is still on view. All this,
and more, is available to view for
the month of August at the Goder-
ich Coop Gallery, 54 Courthouse
Square, lower level, open Monday
through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m..
Brady began her career as a
watercolour artist, but her talent
and interests did not stop there.
Her search to enhance her skills led
her first to Quilt Canada to learn
fabric collage.
From there, she became inter-
ested in combining watercolour
techniques with fabric. She next
learned of an opportunity to attend
an exhibition of Felting in Kitch-
ener Waterloo, after which she was
so inspired that she signed up for a
two day workshop to learn the pro-
cess. Those two days must have
been intense, as as she not only
learned how to felt, but to then use
the fabric to make a jacket. Quite a
feat for a two day workshop.
From this beginning, she has
moved in new directions, combin-
ing her watercolour skills, with fab-
ric collage, and felting to dream up
colourful, original and interesting
products, such as mittens, purses,
scarves, pins, and hats. Brady also
creates beautiful cushions using
her strong colour sense and artistic
talents to design and create these
one of a kind art products. A pic-
ture of Brady's beautiful designer
cushions can be seen below.
Her technique involves Nuno felt-
ing, which is a process combining

new lightweight felted fabric. With
the lighter weight, but substantive
nature of the wool, she can create
more textural, three dimensional
elements in her work. Since both
silk and wool accept dyes well, the
resulting fabric can be beautifully
colourful. Visitors can look forward
to seeing the results of the process
and Judy's creativity during her
show.

Brady has not ceased painting
watercolours though! In fact, she
teaches watercolour classes in her
Sarnia studio. Her own paintings
are inspired by her many visits to
Prague, where the sights of per-
formers in the Town Square, or
musicians on the Charles Bridge
have inspired her to paint portraits
of clowns, puppets, and musicians,
all familiar figures in the city.
