While waiting for the meeting to open, the members brain- stormed names for the club. Club President, Jolande Oud- shoorn opened the meeting with the pledge and led the members in Roll Call which was to name your favourite kind of cake. The majority of members chose chocolate as their favour- ite. After reading through the basics of cake making in their book, the club broke into their baking groups. Amanda Morrison and Jolande Oudshoorn made the purchased cake mix and were baking them as cupcakes. They also make Butter icing that would be used for all of the cakes. Maisy Jefferson, Kayla Drennan and Deanna Haanstra made the Butter Cake, and Loretta Higgins, Jus- tin Morrison and Grace Halla- han followed the recipe for the Spice Cake. Once all cakes were in the oven, members returned to the table to choose a club name. After a vote, it was decided the club would be called the `Wawanosh Twisted Mixers. Gayle Mcllhargey is to prepare the cover page featuring this name for the members' books. The senior members then gave a report on the homework they were given at the last meeting. They reported on the price and variety of already baked muffins and muffin mixes available. The calories and nutritional value of the muffins were also discussed. Mary Ellen asked the mem- bers to mark their calendars for Saturday Aug. 13 for the Ivomec Jug -Washing Fundraiser at Edgars Feed and Seed. The club then read baking tips from their book including baking tech- niques used in cake baking such as sifting and creaming, and tricks to determine when a cake is done. Once all cakes were out Submitted Wawanosh Twisted Mixers Jolande Oudshoorn and Loretta Higgins are seen icing their pieces of cake while Grace Hallahan digs in at the July 21, 2016 meeting. of the oven and had cooled, members iced their own cup- cake plus the other cakes and enjoyed them as a snack. The members all agreed that the but- ter cake was the club favourite. Jolande closed the meeting with the motto. The club will meet again on Friday Aug. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Auburn Hall to learn about pie making. Lucknow Fall Fair Facts - Everyone loves a parade Sew It, Grow It, Show It is the theme for the 153rd Lucknow Fall Fair, on Sept. 16, 17, and 18. The parade takes place on Sat- urday, Sept. 17, with an 11 a.m. start at the corner of Campbell and Havelock Streets (the United Church corner). Please be at the appropriate starting point by 10 a.m. for judging. You will find 5 sections this year with a total of 24 categories to enter. Great prize money as well with judging preference to those entries in keeping with the theme. The local Kinette Club has stepped up again this year to organize the parade for the Luc - know Fall Fair board. Calling all artists One of the contests, at the Lucknow Fall Fair, is the best decorated garbage can. The fair board would welcome more entries in this category at this year's fair on Sept. 16, 17 and 18. The 2016 theme is Sew It, Grow It, Show It. We know there are a large number of talented people in the community, so why not put your paint to can and come up a big winner. Prize money is $50, $40 and $25 for first, second and third place respectively, with all other entries receiving $10. And you don't even have to find or purchase a garbage can. The Ag Society will provide it! Check out the details of this category at lucknowagsociety.ca or see page 20 in the fall fair book Now remember, this is not a "night before the fair" project. Murry Irvin is your contact man for the large, steel garbage can. You can reach Murray at 519-812-1053. Entry forms and rules can be found at www.lucknowagsoci- ety.ca or there is a form inside the fair book. LUCKNOW NEWS Harvey Livingston sinks hole in one and more Lucknow news Ruth Dobrensky I don't know about you, but the humidity the past little while has done a number on me, I can only take so much heat, and that awful humidity has me wiped out. The weather seems to be a bit cooler lately, and hopefully we'll get a bit more rain without all that horrid humidity. A funny thing happened this month, I attended the monthly meetings for both the Lucknow Sepoy Ranees and the Lucknow Rumoli Club on the same day. The Lucknow Sepoy Ranees met last week and travelled to Kincardine for lunch at the Sunrise Grill. Part of the lunch- eon surprise was that they serve western food along with Indian food, so several of us had the Indian Food and it was very good. It's too bad that a town named after an Indian city like Lucknow, has nowhere to get Indian food. If you haven't tried it, you're missing out on some really great food. Pat Weir noted that when she lived in Glasgow, Scotland, there were Indian restaurants everywhere. That same evening, the Luc - know Rumoli Club met for our monthly evening of food, gos- sip and rumoli. One of our reg- ular members wasn't able to attend, so Dorothy Hamilton filled in for her and com- mented on how great her birth- day party was. She brought along a bottle of some kind of tropical cooler which prompted another member (B.T.) to say she only came for the booze anyway. I spent part of a day last week over at St. Paul's -Trinity in Wingham, helping with the cleaning. A fun afternoon was spent watching the bats fly around over our heads. One of the cleaners made a bee -line for the basement while another had a conversation with one bat who was roosting on a bul- letin board. When they say that the church has bats in its belfry, they aren't kidding. Congratulations to Harvey Livingston who had a hole in one on number two at Sunset Golf Course, on July 25. It's a par 3, 157 yard hole. This is Harv's first hole in one. His son, Kirk, had one on that same hole 22 years ago.
