DEAR DORIS!
advice from
Doris Clark
4
IT REALLY WORKS,
DEAR DORIS one year
ago I was told I had a rare and
ineurable disease of the nerv-
ous system. What a terrible
blow that was! I felt depressed
and even rejected.
Into this situation came the
physiotherapist2The warmth of
her 'Smile and_ the competency
of her ministrations brought a
stirring of a desire to respond
and give effort a fling once
more.
A physiotherapist ensures
that there is some small tri-
nmph; be it only the raising of
an aini„ the flexing of a finger;
there is some measure of ach-
ievement and some recogni;
tipn of effurt.
With „improvement, I began
to freak down, the barrier of
ilinets which had separated me
from my family. They respon-
der} and gave me addled streng-

Blessed physiotherapy! 'It 'can
be an -inspiration to better and
happier lives.
Grateful Patient
DEAR PATIENT — Physio-
therapy: "The treatment of dis-
ease with the aid of phySical
agents including radiation,
light, water, heat, massage and
exercise." Far too mundane a
definition for that which is, at
its best, a new way, of life for
the recipients!
DEAR DORIS — I and shy. 'I
think the boy I,kike is slightly
shy too, so.,,yon. see I'm getting
nowhere. ,
Once or twice when I thought
of something to say to him, he
acted very friendly,- so I'm sure
if I only. could make him feel
I was interested in him every-
thing,would be okay'.,
I find this' with other boys
too — that they won't make a
move unless they are sure you
like them.
'Shrinking Violet
DEAR SHRINKING Boys
can be painfully shy, and that's
for sure. They dread the idea
of a rebiiff. Many a friendship
dies a-borning while everybody
waits for the other fellow to
take the first step.
A girl can learn to give a
gracious sign of interest; a boy
can summon courage to take a
chance and ask for a date. Prac-
tice is the thing.
My ten -cent leaflet, "Don't
Be Shy", is on its way. Read it
and wade in.
DEAR DORIS — I'm very
happy with my work set-up,
make my own decisions, work
with several professional boss-
es. All I have is .my grade 12.
My work pleases then/ all, but
this saying certainly applies to
me: "She knows her work but
can't explain it so that another
person can grasp it." I do my
work and personnel watch.
This way they learn by seeing.
If I try to explain with no
actual work, it i& all lost. Is
there a remedy- for this? Would
public speaking classesheIp?
•
• Poor E;nalainer
DEAR POOR — Teaching is
a skill all its, own, It's not so
much having a degree as hav-
ing a talent for teaching; but
public speaking classes would
give you some ease with words.
Today the best teaching is
accompanied with action and
dernenstration. This „is followed
by putting the learner through
his pact* so • that he actually
learns by doing. Stich routines
