The entire staff is composed of 24 members,, which includes our seven newcomers. We will begin with one .of the 'young and popular members of the staff. Miss Alice Silcox was borpt in Windsor and received her uni- versity degree at Western \Uni- ."versity. This is her second year teaching, having taught at Sud- bury last year. Her main interests involve touring Canada, reading and' leading the cheerleaders. During each interview, we de - tided to ask them their opin- ions on miniskirts. Miss Silcox's point, of view is: "Some can wear 'em, some can't." - When asked about her future plans, Miss Silcox said that she hoped to continue teachingifor awhile, anyway. But what about that big rock on the fourth fip- ger of her left hand? Our new Science and Math teacher, Mr. Edmund Pelss, hails from Latvia, one of the Baltic States. He attended public and sec- ondary schools in Toronto and graduated from the 'University of Western Ontario. Previous to coming to Seaforth, Mr. Pelts held an important position with Westinghouse Production Con- trol in London. Basketball is his favourite Sport. When asked about miniskirts, he replied, "Oh, ,they're okay!" "Volkswagens without 'heat- ers", in cold, wintry weather is his "pet peeve" , Mr. Pelss is married and has one son. A French teacher who has itchy feet, Miss Florence Burn - side's main interest is travelling. She has seen most of Canada, travelled through the United States and taken two trips tb Europe. ' Born in Parry Sound, ,Ontario, she first attended -Normal School and taught grade school before obtaining her degree from West- ern University, London. She has spent five summers taking courses at Laval University, Quebec, and it was just .a :little" over a year ago that she studied French in Paris. France. In addition to travelling, Miss Burnside enjoys music, sewing and art. But, although she has a wide range of interests, her main love is the French lan- guage which she hopes to con- tinue studying in Europe. - She is very optimistic in her belief that miniskirts will soon disappear. . Now, we wish to introduce you to Mr. John Ball. • He was raisedon a farm in Rarwood, near London and re- ceived his secondary school- ed- ucation ducation in Strathroy. After com- pleting his university work at Western, satisfactorily, he came to SDHS, where, as most of you know, he 'is in his first/year. of teaching geography, , business practice and economics. His 'reply to the question on miniskirts was, "At times they are distracting to my work, but on the whole, I, like them." When asked of his plans to travel, he said that he would like to travel to Europe for a holiday, sometime within the f next five years. • - • Mr. Ball's spare time is main- ly taken up with his wife and child. Mr. Ross-Vogan's main ambi- tion is to organize the shdp in order that his industrial arts boys may get some 'benefit from it this year. It will be no new experience for him, because he was instrumental in setting up the industrial arts- department at Wingham High School in 1947. Mr. Vogan was born in Bruce -County, north of Wingham, and now lives in Stratford. His main interest, besides his work, is his family — two boys and one girl. He hopes to send them all through university, the eldest being in an engineering course now. '" He feels that miniskirts •can be attractive, but he- believes if they minimize much more, they, will cease to be attractive. Mr. Vogan's education, was ob- tained at Stratford Teachers' College, the Ontario College for Technical Teachers and OCE. He taught twelve years of public school prior to teaching high school. > - Mrs. Mary Lane • shares the popular belief, that miniskirts are... made for some and others should stay away from -them. Born in Cardinal, Ontario, she has. taught business' and com- merce in several Ontario towns. She enjoys teaching and has several other interests, includ- ing art, photography, travel, etc. Her usual pastime, she admits, is treading the "floor of the post office in hope of Letters from her two daughters, one, of whom is a teacher. Since Mrs. Lane likes Sea - forth, perhaps the board of SbHS will be, fortunate enough to have her on the staff for years to come. Last, but ' not least, ' if he doesn't mind that terrible cliche, is . Mr. Walter Armes, our new. English teacher. He was !iprn and received his first education in Windsor. Al- though he received his B.A. at the University'of Windsor, the Iast three years have been spent in England, where he furthered his education at the University of Sheffield. At the present his ambition is to continue teaching in Sea - forth indefinitely. Mr. Armes' interest in 'car- pentry leads to his hobby of col- lecting old ,carpenter tools. He also enjoys assembling high- fidelity equipment Ori miniskirts: "It depends on the legs." Remember! It' takes but a moment to place an Expositor Want i d and be 'money in pock et.
