JUST BE PATIENT
DEAR DORIS - Our adopt-
ed boy was" removed from his
natural home due to starvation
and deprivation, when he was
11. months. .
He has become a normal
well-rounded boy (of 3*) ex-
cept'that he is not talking. He
will say isolated words, but hot
sentences. He refuses to repeat
-words after us when we ask.
We dd not push him, or ber-
ate him.
Concerned
DEAR CONCERNED - He
is not the first deprived child
to try to protect himself by

not talking. It may take a long
time to clear up the• clouded,
befuddled impressions made in
this little lad's first 11 months.
4 Don't be overanxious..Show
delight in his odd words; let
him know that those who love
him rejoice with him
Encourage fun; enjoy what
tie enjoys. As his personality
begins to blossom in this hap-
pier home, he'll jump this hur-

DEAR DORIS .-- Bob and I
have been best friends for four
years. almost closer than two
girl friends, telling each other
everything. Now he has chang-
ed and dates me off and on.
Then again he tells me all ab-
out some tither girl.
Last night I came right out
and told him that we should
either be friends or more than
friends, that I can't take this
off and' on stuff. He said he
cared and, tried to make him-
self like me, but he couldn't.
. He is 18 and I am 16. Please
don't tell me his is taking me
out as a friend because he is
completely different. Myself, I
am very fond of him.
Strange Problem
DEAR STRANGE -' Don't
give him, guiltfeelings for
being himself. He doesn't know
the answers either.
Treasure his warm • friend-
ship. 'for what it is. Give him
freedom and take some' your-
self. You need heaps of dates
with an assortment of romeos
before you'll be in a state -to
demand a showdown with any-
body.
DEAR DORIS - Much of
-my work, which I love is with
pensioners. I work with a wel-
fare department asrsort Of vis-
iting homemaker. •
To enable me to serve these
elderly citizens better I would
like to take a course. which of
necessity would have to be by
correspondence.
' . Loves Old Folks
DEAR LOVES - A series of
correspondence lessons under
the title Understanding Hu-
man Behavior would be a
good start for you. This is off-
ered as part of a . three-year
course: Administration of
Hothes for the Aged, but you
may take the one subject sep-
arately.
Helpful to anyone working
with any age. Costs $90, Les=
sons go out monthly. Write
quickly to Extension Depart-
ment, McMaster . University,
Hatriilton, Ontario. Course has
already started.

Well -Wisher
DEAR _,WELL-WISHER -
No one expects you to. Pretty
well depends on how close You
feel to the recipients. If they
are half -century pals, you may
want to choose •and give your
own thoughtful keepsake.
If you are just one of the
crowd of well-wishers a little
money in the box will do nice
