During the recent Fall As-
sizes of 'the Supreme Court of

Jury examined a number of
public buildings in the county.

Huron County Jail
Huron 'County Jail is an,.. d,
Well preserved building and
well eared for. As there is only
one Turnkey on duty between
the•hours of 3 to 9 a.m. and 5
to 7 p.m., it is our recongmen-
dation that two more full time
Turnkeys be employed. We
think this is a great need for
the sane of the safety of the
Turnkey in event of prisoner
misbehaviour. At the time of
our visitation there was only
one prisoner who stated he was
being well cared for and had
no complaints or recommenda-
tions We would suggest the.
installation of a small air con-
ditioning unit for summer use
in the Turnkeys' Offices. In con-
versation with the Turnkeys on
duty, they stated ''their. satis-
faction with working conditions,

County Court Wiese
The County Court House is
of modern design. At the pre-
sent time the County Library
is situated in the basement,
which is' very unhandy in the
handling of books. We recom-
mend accommodation -for these
purposes be found in Goderich
as soon as possible. The reasons

your telephone manager
Your familiar telephone is a wonderful:friend to have
handy especially in times of emergency. However, it can
only respond to your dialed commands. Dialing a wrong' num-
ber can waste precious time when calling for such emergen-
cy help as the Police or Fire Departments, Bell Canada pro-
vides, space at the beginning of our telephone directories for
eMergency numbers so that you will have the numbers close
at hand when they are needed. Why don't you check now
. to make sure that these. important numbers have been filled
in. In Sea -forth your Police number is 527-1500; and your.
Fire Department number is 5274100. It is most important
to know which Fire Department
serves your particular area and
to know that number. If you
ever need to call either the
Police "or Fire Departments in
an emergency, here are just a
few reminders which will speed
help on its way. Dial, or tell
the operator the number you
need, carefully, of "course. Stay
an the line and talk slaWly and
clearly, giving your name and
address and the reason for cal-
ling. Try to remain calm and to
answer all guestione Promptly,
giving a brief but complete des-
, seription of the emergency.
' Your Police Chief Wait for instructions fiam the
Gordon Hulley , policeman or fireman., I hope
•
that you never have to use the
telephone for such an-eniergency call, but if you do, it can
be' a trusted and speedy servant.
If there is a bride-to-be in your family this month —
and September is becoming almost as popular a month as
June ft* weddings you're probably discovering what a big
help your telephone can be. Calling the florist, photographer,
beauty shop, checking on the wedding gown and bridesmaids
dresses and invitations can all be don* easily by telephone.
The telephonenlso makes it a simple matter to keep relatives
and friends informed as plans for the great day progress. If
relatives and friends' riside in another community in either
Ontario or 'Quebec why not take advantage df our Family
Oalling Plan rates all day Sunday or any evening after 8
o'clock? Then you can enjoy a real visIt, for rates allow 10
minutia for -the price of 'five; 12 mimites for the price of
six,.and so on. These rates also apply on calls to Bell Canada
exchaniet-In--1.abrador and the Northwest Territories, but
do not apply On:calls to other communities outside our
Quebec and Ontario territory, -
Recently some friends were teiling thein-ffire-year-old
son what to do in case he ener got lost. "'First," ask0 dad,
"What's our addreser "I don't know," said junior, "but our
Area Code is 6.13t" With a bit more training this youngster
Will likely grow up to be one of those very smart adults who
always give their Mee Code_along with their phone number
— and who keep a list of frequentIy-used Area ,codes and
phone kumbett bele tbe-telephone.

staff and an active Women's
Auxiliary Unit. The: Board' owns
one ambulance which is staffed
and directed by the Administra-
tor, with tile St. John's Ambu-

of equipment.
The Director of Nurses, Mrs.

upgrading the quality of pat-
ient care, working towards the

Staffed and well satisfied with
working conditions.
South Huron Hospital
Exeter
South Huron Hospital, Exe-
ter, has 52 beds with occupan-
cy of 90%. This is one of the
most efficient home -like hos-
pitals it has been our pleasure
to visit. There is a recently con-
structed addition which was
\needed in this community. The •
employees and people in auth-
ority are deservedly proud of
their Work and surroundings.

Clinton Public Hospital •
Clinton Public Hospital is a
60 bed hospital working to cap-
acity, Financing for future ex-
pansion
xpansion in this district is a
problem. Adequate help
throughout the hospital is re.''
quired, other than in the nurs-
ing" -profession. There are two
Surgeons with many _ active
treatment cases handled every
week.
There is an older part used
as a hospital which :was former-
ly a house (47 years old), which
is constantly settling, 'causing
roofing' and inside plaster prob-
lems.
It is our opinion that this old
portion should be replaced as
'soon as possible. As there is no
ambulance service in Clinton,
we recommend that the Hospi-
tal
ospitat Board look into the posaibili-
ty of offering this service from
the hospital with a trained per-
sonnel.
Seaforth Community' Hospital
Seaforth Community Hospital
was built in 1965 and is a very
compact modern unit. This " is
the kind of hospital that is re-
quired in every community. Of
the 45 beds, 75% to 80% are
in use. Basic staff is very "effici-
ent and happy in their sur-
roundings. Two or three more
nurses could be,psed•to advan-
tage.
The Administrator is to be
commended on his. effort in es-
tablishing a "Career Day" class
of 10, from Grades •12 and le,
of the local High School, until
all who are interested have
been acquainted with hospital
procedure.
Wingham & District Hospital
Wingham and District Hospi-
tal has 104 beds -running at ca•
paeity. This institution has its
first edition Provisional Seal
towards its Accreditation Seal:
An Isolation "Section- is jo be
found in this ''hospital, one of
the few in Western Ontario.
The older section has been dis•
mantled in the past year, giv-
ing a modern hospital of -three
recent additions. There is prov-
ided a Nursing•Assistant's Train-
ing Centre of 20 students per
term which, graduates top assis-
tants.
Two hundred and eighty-three
persons are employed all year
round, 'providing top care_ for
all patients. •
fit is our opinion that these
e community hospitals in
Huron County provide a per-
sonal eare to' the patients,
which cannot be found in very
large institutions of distant
cities.
Also, our recommendations
would be that greater effort be
put forth in finding ways and
mans ,to help finance these
local units. The local Boards
are to be congratulated. for their
time and effort devoted to the
care of the needy and sick.
The above three hospitals
were inspected on Thursday,
the 7th day of September, 1967.
