The regular September U-
CW- meet was held in the
Church basement last Wednes-
day evening with the 8th and
° 16th unit in .charge' of the
devotion service.
Hymn 401 "Onward Christ-
ian Soldiers" was sung with
Mrs. Martin Baan at the pia-
na, The scripture was read -by
Mrs. Douglas Fraser from St.
Matthew chapter 6 followed
by prayer Mrs. Alvin Mc-
Donald. Mrs. Campbell Wey
received the offering. The
topic was taken by Mrs. Jan
• Van. Vliet..Jr. from the .study
book "Into a Nation" using
to chapter "How the Church
Came West". This gave us the
history of 'the advancement
of the Western parts of Can-
ada. In 1808• ,the Rocky Moun
fain Trading Post was form-
ed. • Father - Faoblisher follow-
ed. by John West were two
early leaders. The North West
Company and. Hudson's Bay
Co: Neither company wanted
to come to any settlement
. with each other as it might
scare the Indians away and
it would stop the 'fur trade
with them.,A great many mix-
ed marriages with whites and
. Indians were performed. In
1865 Rev. C. A. Watkins pub-
lished a Roman Catho-

on the
ree language.

Women at AlmaCollege, St.

24 and brought back many
interesting ideas and material.
A skit entitled, "Paper Doll
People" was given by Mrs. C.
Wey, Mrs. W. Bewley and
' Mrs, Herbert Traviss:
Hymn .399 "Faith of .our
Fathers" was sung. Mrs." Bew-
ley and Mrs. Wey introduced
their report by all repeating
the verse, on the Membership
Cards. It was decided to order
more membership cards for
the -coming year. The theme
t7 throughout the Conference
was "Called by God, His Pur-
pos. of me". The .lashes gave
a Very interesting question
and answer quiz which gave
us an outline of same of the
proceedings atthe conference.
The business for the even-
ing was led by Mrs. Gordon
McGavin with Mrs. C. Wiley
giving the secretary's report:

decorating and painting of the
church basement. Mrs. Wilbur
Turnbull reported on the' ex-
pencji.ture foe this.
The Fall Rally will be held
at Moncrieff this year on Oc-
tober 27.
The Annual Turkey Supper
will be held November 1.
The October meeting will
be under the leaderhip of the
Friendship and visiting com-
mittee with the 17th and
boundary unit in charge.
Mrs. Walter Bewley has re-
signed as Mission Band leader
after holding the position for
ten years.

Walton girls 4-1I Club Was
held at the home of Mrs. Don-
ald Aebilles and opened with
a Welcoming talk from lead-
er Mrs. Nelson Reid. Mothers
were present along with 16
members.
Officers elected were Pres-
ident, Mary Leeming, Vice -
President, Beverly McCall,
Secretary, Gail Searle,Press
secretary,' Gail Traviss.
The group discussed colors,
the names and colors of the
color wheel.
Mts. Nelson Reid is leader
of the club and Mrs. Donald.

Walton Bedroom Beauties
met at the home of Gail Tra-
viss. The ."Walton Bedroom
Beauties" was 'chosen as a
name for the club.

daughter banquet sponsored
by the C.G:I.T. and their
leaders was held in the church
school room bn Saturday. A
smorgasbord dinner was ser-
ved and a program followed
with Mrs'. Struthers of Mit-
chell as guest speaker, also
community singing and sev-
eral numbers by the girls.
Miss Brenda Kerslake was
.Unit Meeting
Mrs. John Bos opened her
home to the 17th and Bound-
ary Unit. for their SeSptem-
ber meeting. Thirteen mem-
bers answered the roll call.
Mrs. George Williamson open-
ed the Devotions with a verse
followed by an old hymn,
"Bringing in the Sheaves".
The scripture taken from . the
14th chapter of Revelations,
verses 13-20 was read by Mrs.
Herb Williamson also a poem
entitled "The Ten Command-
ments" was. read. At this time
Mrs. 'George Williamson in-
troduced our' speaker, Mrs.
Walter Bewley. She shared
thoughts and parts of lectutes
she received at the convent-
ion, at Alma College. She had
on display books and pamph-
lets that Could be used in
the units.
A poem "The Shaping of a
Disciple" was read by Mrs.
George Williamson. Mrs. Ross
Bennett opened the -business
period. It was decided to have
slides and a bake sale in Nov-
ember, also , the unit is in
charge of Worship Service for
October in the church.
The supper committee gave
the lists . for' the wedding.
Thank -you' notes were read
from Claire Hackwell and
Celia and McKarney.
The next meeting will be
held at the•home of Mrs. Har-
old Smalldoii. Those in charge
of devotions are Mrs. James
Wi1litemson and Mrs. Roy
Williamson.

The working methods of
people in . pioneer times were
discussed as well as methods
now in a kithen. People then
used wild fruit, nuts, wild
game in the forests and fish
from the rivers and streams
to eat. Maple syrup is consid-
ered a typical Canadian food,
because it is only in North
America that the sugar maple
grows. ' .
Phyllis Ahrens did a dere,
onstration on measuring and
Linda Wolfe demonstrated
Blueberry buckle. Mrs. Ellig-
sen and Mrs. Brown made
Succotash and the members
enjoyed sampling each along
with a refreshment served by
the hostesses. -
