By •'.r. 9. J. Sills)
Our Centennial project cele-
bration is. rapiiily coming to a
head and plans are beginning
to jell so that we can celebrate
in a body ori;t.-4th. Any cel-
ebration requires a lot'. of com-
mittee meetings and they sym-
bolize wheels turning and turn-
ing until the finished product
is finally turned out. Like all
finished products they -rely on
Public acceptant -e and are only
as popular as the general pub -
lie wish to make them. We, on
the centennial committee in
combination with committees
from -many organizations sinter,
ely'hope you like our finished
product and invite everyone to
see it on Sept.'4th.
Anyone wishing to enter a
float in the parade -please con-
tact Elmer Larone and • his
group. The, Junior Farmers and.
Junior Institute under Jim Fap-
ple and liristdne Pryce invite
participation , in their sports
program. The 'Agricultural So.
ciety would like everyone to
come and buy a ticket for their
beef barbecue. The Women's
Institute historical display 'un-
der the direction of Mrs. Mary
Haugh would like. to have you
bring out any historical or an-
tique articles for display. The
Wingham• Battery under Major
Melanson is all set for -their 25,
gun salute. The Town Father's
have their dedication speeches
well in hand with a member of
the National Centennial com-
mittee as the guest speaker. The
round, square and Dutch danc-
ing groups are read- to enter-
tain you along with some local
talent in singing' and dancing.
The whole day will then be
rounded out with public danc-
ing` to the music of .Rayce Riehl
and his>Country Cousins. All in
all 'it is an ambitious grogram
and we hope you like it.
Plans are also well under way
:for the appearance of Guy

Frank Phillips has done
yeoman's job organizing a' 'soft
ball match on Saturday, Aug
26th, between the 1948 O1
timers softball champs and -th
1967 Intermediate hockey tea
champs. There will be a parad
with' quite a number of floa
and it seems that some of the
old bandsmen around town are
going to play a few numbers.
Some of them haven't played
for over 25 years so Guy Lom-
bardo• ••had•...better look -good or
he might loose his job! •.Inci•l-

The. study is designed to sue -

Work, which 'would extend

no decision had been taken con-'

whether to continue the pre-
sent type treatment plant or
switch to a lagoon method.
Crop Report
r
Harvesting of winter wheat
has gone ahead at full `speed
during the recent sunny weath-
er. Lodged spring grains 'are
very difficult to swath. Some
spring barley has been combin-
ed with above average yields.
Crops which, have not . ben.
previously damaged ` by adverse
weather appear to be growing
well. Cobs are forming rapidly
on most field corn:
Practically all of the first cut
hay is now stored. Hay quality
is below normal because of the
lateness `of the season and wea-
thering. •
Beef' cattle continue to make
good gains on pasture, -Milk
flow is above average,
