Crops are still being affected
by the severe •wet . conditions in
most parts of Huron County
according' to D. •G. Inglis, ex-
tension assistant for Huron
County. Irl• several areas,. corn
and beans are being held back,
and yields are expected to be
below normal. In some of the
more fortunate areas,' crops
look very good; this is where
the drainage is good.
Spring grains, especialIy bar-
ley, have been hit by high winds
with the result of much lodging.
The hay crop in the county
has -not been completely taken
irl as yet, with approximately
40% of the hay still out. '

DEAR DORIS
advice from
D •.ris Clark
Still a Baby at 40
DEAR DORIS - Basically,
my husband is an honest, hard
worker, good natured and will;
ing to please. But Ire's always
trying to impress people, and
when I ask him to assume
some, responsiblity, he almost
panics and makes all hinds of
excuses. • '
,If 1 ask him to sort out the
tools he ju's't moves them from:
the top of the work bench to a
box underneath; and still has
to come and ask me if we have
a certain article. This irritates
me very anuch, because I ref-
use to hunt for things for the

children,Amine (mine by a previous
marriage). ' -.
How can he build up some
self-confidence if I have to
continuously push and shove
and • coax, and 'treat .him like a
child? He phones me at .least
four times 'a day (and this isn't
good • at •:the office) and gets
upset if I am ,out, when he gets
home from work.
He has to get over this inse-
cure feeling,' but• I don't think
babying him is the answer, not
at 40 years of age! '
• Man. or Mouse?
DEAR M. QR M. - Could it
be his easy-going_ ways. attract-
ed you in the first place?.
Babying him isn't the way,
but neither is too much criti-
cism. This child -man had a
dominating mother, or I'm a
monkey's aunt. He is going to
need all the honest praise you
can give him, and . no end of.
patient, upbringing.,
L. doubt' if you can do it
alone, because , your own- feel-
ings are bound to creep ' in.
Take advantage• of the family
counselling which is to be had
right where you' are,
DEAR DORIS -- In• my let-
ter to you I told you about my
being in trouble at 16, and
how scared I was,' Your advice
was wonderful and the social
Worker you sent me to is won-
derful. 1 never knew anybody
would or could be so sympa-
thetic and helpful.
Now I'd Iike to say some-
thing to -all girls between the
ages of 15 and 18:
"Girls, don't ever give in to
a guy no matter how much you
think you 'Iove each 'other. I
had ,.to find out the hard way,
but don't you.
Ashamed.
DEAR ASHAMED And I'd
like to. add: The love which
measures itself by the demand
that the loved one "go all the
way" is not lave At all. It is
immature self-indulgence.
nature love"seeketh not
her own", but bends every ef-
fort tb protect and delight the
loved one:
DEAR DORIS - I'm . in a
boat somewhat like Widower
Father, as I 'have mothered my
,two granddaughters since they
were one and: three yeas old.
Their father (our son) also
lives at home. (Mather left
them) Now the girls are 11
and 13. -
I'm no prude, I want to teach
our girls to be worthwhile peo-
pie. They both take music. We
go to church and" other plates
.together, such as school bus
trips. The girls always insist.
I corhe along. Maybe this ans-
wers the que'tion of staying
young beeause just yesterday,
at t;6 ,years; I "was comfortable
and happy helping with one
group of pupils. _
We live ,on a.farrn and have
plenty to o; yet I feel now is
when the girls need my com-
pany. Later there will be other
nterests.
