Farm Safety Week
Is Centennial "Event
' Another Centennial evefit,
"Farm Safety Week" will be
held across Canada July 23 to
29.
"Live dangerously" no long-
er is the motto. People are be-
coming safety aware now, states
Hal Wright, Ontario Department
of Agriculture and Food. Since
Mr. Wright was. appointed Farm
Safety Specialist eight years ago
the number of farm accidents
have been reduced (in a random
survey of seven Ontario coun-
ties).
Because people are now de-
manding -it, machines and build-
ings aredieing designed' with
more safety features. All trac-
tors have ptoshields, while
guards and shields are protect-
ing fanners from .chains, belts,
and rotating shafts: ten years
ago, they didn't. Two years ago,.
NEWS of
CROMARTY
fanners started Warning motor-
ists, that their Machines were
moving lejs than 25 miles per
hour by putting. ",Slow Moving
Vehicle" triangular signs on
their equipment. To'date, over
9,000 of these have been sold in
Ontario.
What's in the future' for farm
safety? Today, many companies
are 'selling silo ladders com-
plete with safety guards; safety
cabs for anti -roll bus are op-
tional equipment in Ontario. In
a few years, these will be stan-
dard equipment -
