A fact worthy of mention is
that there are four Century
Farms within a radius of one
and one-half miles on the -lath
and 14th concessions of Grey
Township.. The first settrers 'to
locate on the 14th concession-
were two brothers, Lauchlin and
Hugh McNeil. They chose Lots
16,-17 and: 18 on.the 14th con-
cession of Grey in 1352. While
walking to Gode>;ich to pay • for'
their laird, they stayed at a
stopping place along the way.
They did not care ,for the 'apr
pearance of these fleefdei Sp in-
stead of, both going to bed, they
took turns, one always. with his
ear to the key Kole. They were,
not mistaken, as later in the
night more people arrived and
they were about to be robbed:
Both brothers departed :through
an upstairs window and arrived
safely at Goderich next day.
Lauchlin built his buildings on
Lot 17, married •Miss Sarah La-
mont of Con., 8, Grey Twp. He
was a lover of good horses, im-
porting several from Scotland.
