UCW Meets • The Tuckersmith Unit one of Brucefield United Church UCW met' at the home of Mrs. D, E. Stuart on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Ham and Mrs. Edgar Stoll were in charge. Mrs. Ham opened the meeting with prayer. Mrs, E. Stoll gave the topic, Centennial of Huron County. She said that the Indians settl- ed in 1833 and that Brucefield was the first named village and Varna the second. The rbll call was answered by telling where your ancestors were born. The secretary's report was given by Mrs.'. E. Sillery. Mrs. N. Sillery' read a card of thanks from Mrs. Ross Scott. Mrs. John Henderson conduct- ed the •business. The publicity and advertising committee with Mrs, Orval Har. rison as chairman are pleased with the co-operation of three local weekly papers in the use of historical articles which are appearing Weekly. The sports committee with Max Demery as ,chairman have plans under way. The program committee with Robert Cunningham as chair- man are planning dances ori Friday and Saturday evenings with a program on Saturday fol- lowing the parade. The ,Sunday program (weather permitting) is to. be an open air church ser- vice at 2:30 p.m. on the school grounds, The committee is also planning to sponsor dances commencing in the near future to assist with immediate ex- penses. Engel, passed away suddenly at his home in Cranbrook on Thursday, April,. 13, in his • 68th year. He was born in Grey' Township, the song{ of the late Mr., and Mrs. Con- rad Engel. He spent his entire life' in the township and operat- ed the blacksmith shop now the garage and machine shop for the past. 45 years. He was married to Annie Smolldon in January,: 1923, who survives along with one son, Gordon, who worked with his father. Two brothers Robert of 'Mitchell, Ross of Cranbrook and five 'gr'andchild- ren alao survive. Funeral service was .held on Saturday, from the D. A. Rann funeral home, Brussels, with Rev. C. A. Winn, Cranbrook Presbyterian Church, eondtuit- ing the service. Pallbearers were Earl''Dunn,`, Frank Smith, Glen Huether, Maurice Cameron, Calvin Cam- eron and Kenneth MacDonald, all neighbors of • the deceased.
