County Engineer Britnell re- plied that the 45 per cent fig- ure 'tad been arrived at in the original negotiations and since after due consideration of all the circumstances. It was very difficult to give a -municipality additional funds when there were no county roads within the municipality. In .addition, the original county roads in the towns were now part of the provincial highway system, in many instances. Mr. Such remarked that al- though Canada seemed to .be facing a "separatist" problem, he did not think Huron County was. "I "am darned, sure that Huron. County is not going to have that problem with the Town,of Goderich!" he exclaim- ed, amidst loud clapping from fellow councillors. Roads Geiger and Cottniy En- gineer Britnell officiated at the presentation of county lapel pins to nine long-time employ- ees of Huron County Roads De- partment — at total of 283 years in all! The nine who were honored were called to the dais and each in turn was presented with his gift by the two officials, after which Warden Donald McKen- zie congratulateed�ethem on their long service. Lifer, they were guests of the County of Huron, together with Council -members, at a luncheon at Maitland Golf and Country Club, Goderich. The Roads employees honored and their length of service, were as follows: John Snell, January 1, 1927, 40 years;, William Wright, Mar. 1, 1929, 38 years;' Fred Sears, Mar. 1, 1930, 37 years; Robert McCabe, April 1, 1934; 33 years; Frank Reilly, May 1, 1938, 29 years; Bert Craig, Dec. 1, 1940, 26 years; Ken MerriS,,, May 1, 1940, 27 years. :Agree On, (Continued from Page 1) of 'operation in the Museum and favoured employment of a full- time staff member. At the present t ime,, there are two full-time -employ- ees, and the ° curator, James Chisholm may be leaving short- ly. Someone must be, trained to take his -place, it was felt by County Council. The, Property committee also reported thatrepresentatives of Huron County .historical Socie- ty 'met with the committee to discuss matters of . mutual in- terest, in connection with the archives room operated by the Historical Society. Mrs. Thomas Appleby enter- tained a few friends of Miss Mabel Thompson on Friday on the occasion of her birthday. Miss 'Thompson was the recip- ient of many gifts and cards. The occa- sion was his birthday. Mr. George Eaton celebrated very quietly his 88th birthday.
