Goderich, said he had been ask-
ed
sked to pose thu question to the
County Colwell as to wily . there
is not a more equitable portion
of road rebetes paid back to
the Town of Goderich. He asked
why an additional five per cent
was not added to the present 45
per cent to bring it up to the
others.
County Engineer Britnell re-
plied that the 45 per cent fig-
ure 'tad been arrived at in the
original negotiations and since
after due consideration of all
the circumstances. It was very
difficult to give a -municipality
additional funds when there
were no county roads within
the municipality. In .addition,
the original county roads in the
towns were now part of the
provincial highway system, in
many instances.
Mr. Such remarked that al-
though Canada seemed to .be
facing a "separatist" problem,
he did not think Huron County
was. "I "am darned, sure that
Huron. County is not going to
have that problem with the
Town,of Goderich!" he exclaim-
ed, amidst loud clapping from
fellow councillors.
Roads Geiger and Cottniy En-
gineer Britnell officiated at the
presentation of county lapel
pins to nine long-time employ-
ees of Huron County Roads De-
partment — at total of 283
years in all!
The nine who were honored
were called to the dais and each
in turn was presented with his
gift by the two officials, after
which Warden Donald McKen-
zie congratulateedethem on their
long service. Lifer, they were
guests of the County of Huron,
together with Council -members,
at a luncheon at Maitland Golf
and Country Club, Goderich.
The Roads employees honored
and their length of service,
were as follows:
John Snell, January 1, 1927,
40 years;, William Wright, Mar.
1, 1929, 38 years;' Fred Sears,
Mar. 1, 1930, 37 years; Robert
McCabe, April 1, 1934; 33 years;
Frank Reilly, May 1, 1938, 29
years; Bert Craig, Dec. 1, 1940,
26 years; Ken MerriS,,, May 1,
