Relativesgathered at the

renee Barker for asocial even-
ing marking their 25th wed-
ding anniverary. The bride
was the former 'Lois Pepper
and their marriage took place
at Staffa parsonage on Dec. 31
by -the Rev. 4. E. Aldworth.
Mr. and Mrs. 'Barker have
since resided in the Zion com-
munity. The attendants were
the bride's sister, Mrs. George
N1oor-e'and Lloyd Barker, twin
brother of the groom. They
have three children}, Bonnie,
Mrs. Eric Norris, MacDonald
College Montreal; Larry,Lon-
don; . Wendy, at home. , Gifts

Miss Terry Barker spent
the holidays with Mr. and
Mrs. Herb Britton and Ken
and has accepted a position
with the Avon Crest Hospital
in Stratford and begins her
duties on Monday.
Mr. James Statton 'is a pa-
tient in Seaforth Hospital. We
wish him a speedy recovery.
Friends from Staffa, Munro,
Mitchell, Stratford and com-
munity enjoyed a social even-
ing at Zion United Church on
Friday" when Gloria Ann Pep-
per, Mitchell and Barbara Hut-
chings from Consort, Alberta,
showed slides on their work
at the Mission Hospital at 13e1 -
la Bella, also the life and Work
of the people at Bela Bella,
Bella Cola and Namu. Their
occupation, mostly, is fishing
Herring, and salmon and other
fishes. There are no cars there.
Roads are board walks and
gravel ,paths. Only way to the
island is by air and water.
Mr. Daynard opened the ev-
ening and Mrs. Charles Roney
and Mrs. R. S. Aikens led in
a sing song. Melba Jean
'Friend read a poem "My Dad-
dy Says".
Mrs. Gordon Aikens was
hostess for the January aneet-•
ing of Zion U.C.W. held in t
church basement. Mrs. s.
Roney had charge of devo-

rotes.

Charles Roney closed the
meeting with a noem• "New
Years Resolutions". •
Lunch • was served by the
hostess assisted by Mrs. Lorne
Aikens and Mrs. R: S. Aikens.
The young doctor, a strong ad-
vocate of early ambulation, was
explaining it to a patient about
to have his appendix removed.
"A few hours after the opera-
tion I want you to sit on the
edge of your bed and dangle
your legs, After lunch 'I want
you to stand on your feet for
a few minutes. By dinner time,
1 want you to be walking
around the room." "Doctor,"
the patient sighed wearily, "do
you mind, if I lie down for the
operation?"

Unit one of U.C.W. met at

when president Mrs. Cr. Pap-
ple opened the meeting with a
poem, "Let us walk softly
friend." Mrs. F. Roberton
presided for devotions and
gave a reading "Twelve fine
old Months", Mrs. Close read
the scripture. Mrs. Don Wood
led in prayer. A reading "Or-
deal is Over" bv Mrs. Wood
followed and Mr. Turnbull
showed pictures of their trip
to Mexico. Mrs. Wood gave
the courtesy' remarks.
FIRST CHURCH. WMS
First Church WMS met in the
Centennial . room on Thursday
and .opened with a prayer by
the president Mrs. Francis Cole-
man. Mrs.' McKay gave the
treasurer's report for 1966 and
Mrs. Helen McMillan, a 'group
leader, took over for the re-
mainder of the meeting. Mrs.
Drover read the scripture les-
son taken from Acts first chap-
ter, verses 1-14. The study book
for this year, "The Church
Grows in Canada" was taken by
Mrs. Helen McMillan,. Mrs. Teb-
butt and Mrs. John McGregor
and Mrs. McKay read the Glad
Tidings prayer.
TUCKEHSMITH UNIT
The Tuckersmith unit of the
Brucefield church met at the
hone of Mrs. John Henderson
on Tuesday with an attend-
ance of 13. Miss M. Swan and
Mrs. John Broadfoot were in
charge of the dedication. Miss
Swan opened the meeting
with a few moments of silent
prayer in memory of a mem-
ber, Mrs. E. Jarrott. Miss
Swan gave a reading "Let us
remember this day of prayer".

Matt, 6. Mrs. Berry in the ab-
sence: of Mrs. Allan received

meeting was held in the school
room, Wednesday evening, pre-
ceded by a pot -luck supper.
Rev. D. Stuart was chairman
and Mel Graham was appointed
secretary for the meeting. Fin-
ancial reports were given by
all organizations. A new Stew-
ards, Stewart Wilson was elect-
ed.Retiring' stewards are Mrs.
Mel Graham, A. McBeth, Glenn
Swan and Gerald Horton. Elgin

paid tribute .to the memory of
