A gaily lit Christmas. tree,
and glowing candles set a gay
atmosphere for the annual ba-
raar and, tea, sponsored by St.
James' Catholic Women's Lea-
gue, Seaforth. Guests were re-
ceived by the president, °Mrs.
Arthur Devereaux and Mrs.
Harold Maloney, vice-president.
Christmas holly 'And glowing
candles formed attractive cen-
tres for the tea tables.
Pouring tea were: Mrs. Ber-
nard Henderson, Mrs. J. J. Wilk-
inson, Mrs. John Meagher and
Mrs. C. P. Sills.
Hes tesses in the tea room

MRS, WILLIAM CORLETT
Mrs, William Corlett, 89, 18
Willow St., Stratford, a !miler
Seaforth resident, died Monday,
in Stratford General Hospital.
Born at Downsmill and educat-
ed at Ridgetown, she was the
former Martha J. Elgie. In
1897 she' married William Cor-
lett at Ridgetown. In 1933 she
and her husband .moved to Mc-
Killop Township. Her husband
died in 1950 and she moved to
Seaforth. She was a member of
Northside United Church, here,
and of the local chapter of the
Order of the Eastern Star. Sur-
viving are a daughter, Mrs.
C. H. (Edna) Saddington, Lon-
don; four' sons, Albert, , Kings-
ton; Harold, London;, William
Listowel; Glen,' 18 Willow St,
Stratford. A funeral service was
held at the G. A. Whitney fun-
eral home, here, Wednesday, at
11:30 a.m. Rev. J. C. UrittOn,
Seaforth, assisted by Elder
Ralph Moore, Stratford officist.
ed. Burial was in Mount. Plea-
sant cemetery, Tharaesville.
Pallbearers were Cliff Hoegy,
Bill Coutts, Andrew McNichol,
Earl Machan, Bob Smith,Bill
Coutts. Flowerbearers' were
Ricky Corlett, Randy Corlett,
Hal Saddington and Ron Sad-

, THORPE RIVERS
Thorpe.J. Rivers, 76, Seaforth,
died Sunday in Clinton Public
Hospital. Born and educated in
Usborne Township, in 1916 at
Saskatchewan he married Eliza
Ashton who died in 1938. In
early life he farmed in the
West; here he was a carpenter,
contractor and butcher. For
seven years, he served on Sea -
forth_ town council. Surviving
are two sons, Elmer and John,
Seaforth; two daughters, Mrs.
Ivan (Evelyn) Querengesser,
Seaforth; Mrs. Howard (Muriel)
Allan, Brucefield; a sister, Mrs.
William • (Pearl) Drover, Sea -
forth; a. brother, Everitt, Cali-
fornia. A funeral service -was
held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at
S. Box funeral home, Rev. Doug-
las Fry, First Presbyterian
Church officiated. Temporary
entombment was in Pioneer
Memorial Mausoleum.
Pallbearers. were Rein Van-
derhoek, Harold Maloney, Frank
Lamont, Robert Ilpshall, Jack
Dorrance and Carl Vanderzon.
Flowerbearers Were Robert
Watson, Cannon Rowcliffa, Mac
LaBeau and Arthur Powell.
VERNON WESLEY HEDDEN
Word was received of the
death of Vernon Wesley Hedden
of St. Catherines who passed
away in the. general hospital,
St.•Catherines, Monday, Dec. 5th
following a three week illness.
In his 62nd year, he was born
in Crediton, son of the late -Mr,
and Mrs. George Hedderi, and
formerly lived- in Hensall for
many years before going to St.
Catherines. He was a cement
contractor by trade.
Survivors are his wife, the
former Dorothy Hoskins, five
sons, George, Robert; Donald,
Raye, Earl, all of St. Catherines,
two daughters, Jaqueline, B.C.,
Patricia, and a number of grand-
children; six brothers, Wil-
liam, Niagara Falls, Harold, of
Dresden; Orville and Russell,
St. Catherines'; Frank and Herb,
Hensall; two sisters, Mrs. Ruth
Carter, 'Clinton, Mona, 'Mrs.
Alex Shorthouse, St Catherine.

Proceeds from the draw are
for rebuilding and surfacing
the track as well as for re-
building the lane to the track
barns. And repairs to the local
barn.
The Turf Club is consider-
ing reviving race meets here
and plans are underway for
a meet next year.
