The English used simi- lar pictures and added estivity many charming scenes de- signed by renowned aro .tists, including Kate Green- away, famed for her Christ- mas card designs. $et. a Precedent These tiles were used both to line the fireplace and on mantels and other surfacings, setting a pre- cedent for modern fire- places. Astociatkon Presses Xmas Seal Sale Directors of the Huron Coun- ty Tuberculosis Association were told Wednesday night at a meet- ing at the Elm Haven Motor Hotel in Clinton that Huron and Perth Counties have the lowest incidence of tuberculo- sis in Ontario. Mrs. Beryl Dav- idson, Stratford, executive sec- retary :of the accociation saki that the current program in Huron includes a survey of the 23 nursing homes in the county, and a retirement and pre-em- ployment program. Last week 235 residents at Huronview; Clinton, the eounty's home for the aged, were k -rayed for TB and other chest conditions by the Beck Sanatorium, London. A survey of all food handlers In the county has just been completed. J. A. 'Taylor, Drumbo, presi- dent of the Oxford County Tu- berculosis Association, as guest speaker asked just how ef- ficient is. a mass x-ray. He said that there is always a segment of the population which does not respond (Huron's last mass x-ray survey, two years ago, saw 51. per cent. of the popula- tion comply). "We should be. asking ourselves if research is the answer to the TB problem. Just as the Salk vaccine . be- came the answer of the problem of polio", said Mr. Taylor. He was introduced by Dr. Harold Vokes, Dungannon, and thanked by Miss Eileen O'Brien, Gode- rich. George Watt, Blyth, presi- dent of the association reported that 772 x-rays were taken at t h e International Plowing Match, Seaforth, last month. He paid tribute to Mrs. Davidson for the project which the Minn Cheque Mix -Up, Brings Complaint ,E. Boswell, Seaforth, told a d ectors' meeting of the Hur- on ounty Tuberculosis Associa- tion in Clinton, Wednesday night that contributors to the Christmas Seal appeal of the association are reacting against a French language "goof" in the cheque form mailed with 'this year's seals. Mr. Boswell is treasurer of the Christmas Seal appeal this year in Huron. French words take•preminence over English on the cheque mailed out last week with the seals. Mrs. Beryl Davidson, of Stratford, executive secretary of both the Huron and the Perth associations, quoted Dav- id M. Rae, Stratford, provin- cial president as • stating that it was an operational goof over which the two counties had no. control. She said that Mr. Rae had also commented that in Perth County there has been a "tremendous backlash over it." Apparently the forms were printed in Ottawa to save mon- ey through bulk production for both Ontario and Quebec tom- munities. The error was, said Mrs. Davidson, that the French form was used for both coun- ties' requirement. Mr. Boswell •said that returns were coming in well, but that he has received a number of replies with blank cheques un- signed and accompanied by critical comments. Because of the possibility of a postal strike the county association felt that there wasn't time to do some- thing about the error. County TB Association sponsor- ed. He said that it was the first time that the service of a chest x-ray bas ever been provided at an International Plowing Match. Last year the county associa- tion donated $1,000 to the Inter- national Union Against Tuber culosis; to a special fund of the. Ontario TB Association to fin- ancially assist. needy tubercul- osis associations, and money for research for all chest condi. tions. Huron County's new director for the Huron County Health Unit, Dr. Gerard Evans, attend- ed the meeting. The audience was guestion. ing the lecturer who had just Spoken on big game hunting !in Africa.
