DEADORIS
advice from

BOMBS OR BOOKS?
DEAR, DORIS — I am a
grade 12 student and a few
years back I was told I had an
I.Q. which was above^average. I
believed this as I have been
able to pass my grades with a
minimum of studying:
1 joined tlie- Canadian .Naval
Reserve and have spent the
past two summers with them.
Then I have to force myself to
gii-back 4o' school, as school is•
not my best pastime.
My problem is that I am not
able to think any more. My
school work is suffering and I
am losing .my temper much
more frequently. I have come
to the conclusion I am not hap-
py in what I, am doing. '
I have been thinking of join-
ing the U.S. Marines and going
to Vietnam. I think I would like
to do this. Should I take a
chance and join the marines
and perhaps give up my goal of
becdming a social worker or
teacher, or should I stay in
'school until I am able to realize
my goal for my future?
Books Or Battles
DEAR B. or B. —' That high'
I.Q. is your worst enemy right
now. When book -learning comes
too easy,. study habits may
come hard. ' •
Add this to your summer
with the Navy —. and you. be-
come restless.. for action: real
action! Isn't that. it?
Trouble is., war turns .out to
be, not :high - adventure, but
hard, . dirty ' work; suffering,
barbarism.
It might do you good to see
the .world. But if you're ever
going to do a professional job
you'll be needing. goad' study
habits for the rest of your life.
Seek'personal guidance coun-
selling from someone who can
find nut just what's eating you.
DEAR DORIS — My son is
14. He always keeps in contact.
If he stays after school for
sports or anything he phones to
tell me; if he is going to be .late
at a meeting,. he lets- me know.
'The young mothers want to
know how we manage it with-
out him being teased.
He ignores it because it is
family procedure. He cannot
understand what the big fuss is

Faithful,Reader
DEAR READER- — Sure.'
You set an example by keeping
yourself located. Eventually it
becomes the thing to tlo. It is a
sign of your • importance iff.
someone cares about where you
are and is glad when you come
home!
DEAR DORIS — I have been
widowed twice and very happy
with both and thereforehave
two sets of rings which I'd -like
to wear; one as much as the
other.
Both wedding rings 'are
quite narrow. Can I wear both
sets on the left hand or should
one set be worn on the right?
Please Advise
DEAR PLEASE — Neither.
Looks too much like adding up
the notches on a gun. - •
In marrying a second time
you give up • your widow-
hood. So you remove the sym-
bols of that first union. You
may, if you wish, wear the pre-
vious engagement ring as a din-
ner ring on your right hand.
You are now the widow of
your second husband;' which
leaves the second' set on your
left hand.
