HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Huron Expositor, 1966-11-17, Page 3m IMPORIANT NOTICE TO MOTORISTS Effective January 1, 1967, a passenger in a motor vehicle, who is not paying a fare for passage, will have the right to claim damages from 'the driver and/or owner of the vehicle if he's injured in an accident Caused by the driver's gross negligence. (There will be no change in the law affecting fare -paying passengers, who will continue to have the right to claim damages.) The insurance industryadvises that almost all automobile liability insurance policies now in effect •Iiclude coverage against this new risk. However, all motor vehicle owners, and particularly motorcycle owners, are urged to check their policies to make sure that passenger hazard cover- age is included. If there is any doubt you should check with your automobile insurance agent. ONTARIO DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORT Hon. Irwin Haskett, Minister by W. W. Overseas Calls For The Festive Season Just 'a reminder to anyone planning to make overseas calls during the busy holiday periods of December 24-26 and December 31' to January 2. Advance reservations for such calls will be taken starting Monday, November 28 from 9:00 a.m. To reserve a call...just ask your Long Distance Operator to connect you with the Overseas Operator .for the country that you wish to call. The Overseas Operator can then ar- range all the details of the call with you. If at all possible, it's a good idea to make the calls before or after two peak calling periods. Not So Long Ago "TELEPHONE OPERATORS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO REPORT AT THIS BUILDING AT ANY HOUR OF DAY " that's BICYCLE COSTUME. Believe it or not, OR NIGHT IN a quotation from 1 telephone company bulletin dated 1895. And that .same year, a women's fashion magazine said, "Let women's business attire be black, brown or grey serge. Black is preferred on account, of the unwritten law govern- ing, the style of dress by many self-supporting women." How the styles have, changed in almost three-quarters of a cen- tury, and persepally, I think our telephone girls today look •nrett a,tla.ti‘e in their' bright, gay colors. But Operators' clothes aren't -the only things that have changed aiound the' telephone .company during the last 71 years. There is no shouting now when talking Long Distance, it's just like speaking to, someone across a desk; it's possible to- dial cross -continent calls in seconds for a fraction of the cost of 71 years ago. In fact, ou% Operators today preside over boards keyed to a communications network unimagined 71 years ago. All those years of research .and development have made your telephone the most modern, trouble-free, reasonably - priced phone in the whole world. * * * * a: * Seaforth: Inter - Town - The locals were hosts to Gode- rich and upset the top team of the league.
