Legion
Corner
By JACK HOLLAND
Well for all who were there,
the annual Legion banquet was
a real success with around 250
present. A bus load of veterans
from Westminster Hospital,
were the guests of the branch
for the evehing and really en-
joyed themselves.. The guest
speaker was the commanding
officer 'of Canadian Forces Base
Clinton, who spoke of training
in our 'present day 'defence
forces.
On Thursday . night of this
week, we have pur regular nom-
inationuneeting so, let's' alt'turzr
out for this one. On Friday,
November llth, the veterans
will parade to the Cenotaph for
the Remembrance Service, fall
in at 10:30. And speaking of
Remembrance Day, (a full holi-
day in Seaforth this year), who
can ever forget the immortal
words of Lt. Col. John McCrae
in his poem called:
"In Flanders Fields"
In Flanders Fields, the popies
blow,
Between the crosses, row on
row,
That markour place and in the
sky,
The larks still bravely singing
fly,
Scarce heard amidst the guns
below.
We are the dead,
Short days ago we lived, felt
dawn, saw sunset' glow,
Loved and were loved, and now
we lie,
In Flanders Fields,
Take up our quarrel with the
foe,
To you from failing hands we
throw the torch,
Be yours to hold it high,
If ye break faith with us who
die,
We shall not sleep, though pop-
. pies blow in Flanders Fields
"At the going down of the'
sun, and in the morning, we,
will remember them."'
