Council is concerned about the growing number of offences against the law and held a lengthy discussion on the pro- blem. The talk centred about E. R. Davis who acts as both town constable and road super- intendent. He said although his first duties are as policeman, his other job demands a great deal of his time. The • village is now under the protection of the Ontario Prov- incial Police. Iris not designat- ed as a police village, therefore does not receive a grant for police work and cannot enlist auxiliary police such as those used in Seaforth, Mr. Davis, who took the double job 15 years ago, said the village now needs -a full time policeman. Council requested Mr. Davis to not take Saturday afternoon off from his job as policeman as he now does but spend all day Saturday on police work and take off earlier on another afternoon. Mr. Davis told coun- cil he often does police duty on Saturday evening. Other Business Council decided to have a smoke ejector fan sqnt on ap- proval for the village fire de- partment. The fare is used to draw smoke from a burning building to aid firemen work-. ing inside. Council accepted a report on the Koehler Drainage. Works and instructed the clerk to pre- pare a by-law for the payment of $450, which is the cost al- lotted to the town. Building permits were grant- ed to Keith Buchanan to repair a veranda; to Orval Rapson to build a car port; to W. H. Bell to put siding on his house; to Douglas Cooper to do remodel- ing.
