and Arena Board had co-operat-
ed in a public dinner and pres-
entation, she recalled, and sug-
gested the committee be auth-
orized to proceed along these
lines and to expend a similar
amount—perhaps $300—as Last
year.
Mayor Flannery said he had
talked to W. R, Smith, arena
commission chairman, a n d
agreed this was the proper
course, but hesitated about fin-
al approval.
"I feel we should talk it over
with the players and arena, and
we then talk about it again. We
could have a special meeting,
if necessary."
Mrs. Cardno said the com-
mittee was considering work re-
quired to be done at the Rec,
so that ball schedules could get
under way. -
Council asked Clerk Williams
to look into a new surface for
roads, called Bitumix. He also
is to look into the cost of put-
ting oil on the roads to keep
the dust down.
Council appeared to feel that
the proposed new Huron Police.

Wingham council approved last
week, was, too expensive for the
amount of use it would be to
Seaforth. Mrs, Cardno felt the
OPP should pay for the system,
since it is of more value for
them. Councillor G. Hildebrand
said he got the impression that
the system would be pushed
through whether they want it
or not. Reeve Dalton replied
that whoever pushes it through
will have to pay for it.
The council meeting was at-
tended by'12 girls of Northside
Church CGIT. They attended
with their leader, Mrs. G. Baker,
to see local government in ac-
tion. .
In other business -council:
--reimbursed the Town Clerk
$25 .for extra work involved in
the numbering of houses in the
town;
—agreed to buy a spray tank
and gun at $49.95 for painting
lines on the streets;-
-instructed the chairman of
the Public 'Works Com%Iuttee,
James Kelly, to buy 25 trees, at
least six feet, and plant them
at his discretion -After consult-
ing house owners;
—agreed the, dump be bull-
dozed at a cost. of 4104;
—approved an ad requesting
people to keep their dogs tied
up;
--agreed to look at lights on
George St. North when lighting
improvements are being niatle;
—cleared bills which were
paid last year but were riot
passed, and to which attention
had been drawn by the audi-
tors;
--named Deputy Reeve W.
Cuthill to attend the Midwest-
ern Ontario Development meet-
ing in place of Ross Savauge;
who is unable to go.

Among delegates attending
the annual 'meeting of the Lib-
eral Party in.: Ontario, held in
Toronto, May .6-7, were the fol-
lowing: Maitland Edgar, Beech-
er Menzies, Gladys Chambers,
Bob. Mann, Ken Burke, Eric Col-
lins, all of Clinton; Jim Taylor,
of Hensall; Peter Raymond and
Ross Tuckey, of Exeter; Howard
Aiken, of Goderich;'Bill Elston,
of Morris Township, and A. Y.
McLean, of Seaforth.
In sessions that resulted in a
major voice for rank and file
workers in party matters, Lib-
erals voted to hold a leadership
convention within two years af-
ter each Provincial election.
The 810 delegates voted un-
animously to direct policy by
party policy conferences every
two years. In future, too, pro-
vincial leaders of the party' are
to report back on action being
taken on policies put forward
by the membership.,
Provincial Leader Andrew
Thompson endorsed the resolu-
tions and called . for a major
effort to win the next Provin-
cial election,' and suggested that

50 Years
Two former Seaforth r4sidents
celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary in 'Stratford, Sun-
day.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex E. McGav-
in, who were married in Sea -
forth in 1916, marked the occa-
sion with a family dinner at
their home. They lived in Sea-
forth until 25 years ago, when
they moved to Stratford.
Mr. McGavin was a finisher
at Imperial Furniture until his
retirement 11 years ago. The
couple have one daughter, Mrs.
Harris (Lois) Bell, of Elora, and
five granddaughters. -
Guests at the celebration in-
cluded Mrs. McGavin's sister,
Mrs. J. H. (Rena) Grimmer, of
Ayr, who was a bridesmaid at
the wedding.

R. Nicholson & Sons for $2,470,
with A. Ehgoetz receiving the
Grey Branch, $3,775.00; Leggatt
$549.00, Regan $2,234 and the
Winteringham $1,190. A peti-
tion was received to have that
portion of the Bode Dr. Branch
repaired which is not already
a municipal drain,, and the
Clerk was instructed to notify

Woods Drain was read and pro-
vis,ion,ally adopted, Road ac-
counts amounting to $3,866.78
and general accounts totalling
$4,292.87, were ordered „paid.
