Survey notices are sent to all physicians; clergymen, teach- ers, official health agencies and community groups' to publicize the services available to all physically infirm children un- der 19 years of age. The families of children re- ported are visited by the dis- trict nurses with prior approval from the family doctor. Under the doctor's direction,- arrange- ments can be made for a com- plete rehabilitation program embracing medicine, therapies, social service, psychology., edu- cation and recreation. In addi- tion, there will be the provi- sion of prosthetic appliances and special equipment as the `need arises. If you, know .of a physically handicapped child not receiv- ing care and treatment, notify any member of the Seaforth Lions Club, so that the case may be referred for investiga- tion. A woman of generous propor- tions fell down an esciator, col- lided with a man along the way. and, finally, ,landed on top of him at the bottom. The woman, still rather daz- ed, continued to sit on the man's - chest. He looked up at her with an air of resignation. "Madam," he said politely, "I'm sorry, but this is as far as I go." The Easter Seal sponsored district nursing service of the Ontario Society for Crippled Children has no' equal in the field of child rehabilitation. The Society nurses are all ex- perienced public health gradu- ates who have had special train- ing in orthopeadics and have had manyNrnonths training in working with crippled children, before being assigned to one of the eighteen district nursing of- fices, operated by the Ontario Society for Crippled Children through Easter Seal funds. From district offices, they com- pletely cover Ontario, working in close co=ordination with the - district public health offices, doctors, parents and the Easter Seal service clubs. In addition to their nursing duties of at- tendipg clinics, treatment cen- tres and hospitals, these highly specialized nurses will make more than 20,000 home visits in a year. These travelling nurses are a great source of comfort for the parents of crippled children as well as the child. They will demonstrate the correct use of crutches andwheel chairs, ad- just braces to release or pre- vent,. pressure sores; make cer- tain that thechild attends a clinic or treatment centre when necessary and that boys and girls who need a summer vaca- tion go to one of the Society's five camps. The club ' also arranges and pays for a two-week vaca- tion at the •' society's camp in Northwestern Ontario for crip- pled • children. The committee in charge of this year's drive has asked that anyone receiving Easter Seals who does not care to send in a donation, to please hand or send the seals to a friend or neighbor. Please do not return the seals to the club, Since it costs the club seven cents to redeem them from the Post Office. - While some envelopes con- taining cheques or cash have been received, it',is anticipated that a much better response will be made. during the next few days. If the campaign is to be a success—and it must be a suc- cess, Mr. Stephenson said—a great many more contributions are required. Between now and the close of the drive, at least 1,000 donations ;ire required to put Seaforth over the top. Hunter: "Now, toll me, how do you detect an elephant?"
