You see, my son-in-law, is a diabetic, but never went on a diabetic's menu, will not take his tests, and overdoses himself with insulin. Consequently he has violent reactions, mostly during the night. So she is up feeding him candy, ,jam, syrup, while he is biting, kicking and falling o the bed. After these frequent ,ordeals she is exhausted. Ail he thinks about is how, much money they can make; and yet he loses one job after another because he is utterly irresponsible. She doesn't like to cross him be- cause he gets so furious. Is there a way out? Haunted DEAR #TAUNTED -If there is it's not by going back into the nightmare. Now that he wants her back, she has a chance to lay down some terms:-. regular visits to doctor; iron -clad promise to ob- serve bserve dietary restrl.i tions; no more tantrums. It must' be thoroughly understood that one fallfrom grace will cause _ her to vanish -for keeps! Unless she can eget this kind of stamina, she'll have to stay away from this child -man; .a person who is- so unbelievably spoiled that he is writing his own death .Warrant! 41 4 . 41 DEAR DORIS-,My wife' and I went into a cafe for dinner. Just as. we started w,alkiiig down the aisle to a booth, a 1 man -behind us said, ••11i. Sweet• le ; •to my wife. She was be- hind me and looked around at him, but kept on welkin,. Shel didn't recognize the guy, 1 was• angry about it. My wife said it was all r,_ ht, that maybe the guy knew her; that it makes a woman feel good to have a man say that to her. I said she should feel.. insulted. I think no man has any busi- ness saying anything like that 'to a married woman even if he knows her well. Who's Right DEAR WHO'S RIGHT -Both of you! No„ man should thus address any woman --who isn't his Sweetie -that way. But a much-niarried woman sometimes finds sweet talk attractive! Have you been taking her for granted? How long since you .admired her' good looks, or her hair -do? AL 4c 41 DEAR DORIS-My daughter is now residing in Germany and being married there. A couple of her girl friends have ap- proached me in regard to their having a shower for her in ab- sentia, which, of course, they realize I Cannot do. I have no idea of the proper procedure. Are the gifts wrap- ped When brought or after the invited guests arrive? Jennie DEAR JENNIE-Either way. But I'd go for having them brought unwrapped. Part of the evening's fun would them be doing sbtne fancly• wrapping, en- closing a message or home-rhade rhytne - ("Art may think that you're" no Cook; wait till you use this recipe book!" or, "Now that Joe is up in rank, you will -need this piggy bankl'J) Your absent girl will love these worn (if corny) messages CONFIDENTIAL TO•,J?ULLED BOTH WAYS -Stand on your own two feet. Your parents mistakenly feel they can con- tinue to put pressure on, even though you are now ,a woman. They made a wrong choice of vocation for you; and may cause you to desert the person who seems right for you. Whe- ther you change religion to inarryris a matter for your own heart and conscience to decide. Your letter shows plenty of maturity. 414141 DEAR DQRIS-What's wrong with saying to my little boy: "You can't have your ice cream until you finish your spinaeh"? My husband and I have , con- stant arguments about this sort of thing. He wants to give him his des- sert anyway. I want him to get the habit of eating what's good for him. Then the dessert is a reward. Don't you think so? Puzzled DEAR PUZZLED-'Fraid not. Trouble is, we are already too sweets -conscious in this pros- perous country!, why should they be the reward? . And at the same time, forc- ing the consumption of a com- plete se ling of a vegetable is more .likely to put him off it for keeps,. Little. tempting servings, with no issue made, are best. Meal- time is no time for stern mea- sures. Classified ads pay dividends. i THE IURON`:t)0QS rOg't.
