F. Christie, who entertained Miss Abbie Seip, Miss Wilma Seip, Mrs. Ross Savauge, Mrs. P. B. Mof- fat, Miss Annette Sinclair, Mrs. Reg Kerslake, Mrs. Wm.. Wright, a'td Mrs. James Robertson. The March meeting of the Hospital Auxiliary was held Tuesday evening with a large attendance. After the business reports and arrangements be- ing made for the bus trip to London to tape our part in the "Take Your Choice" program on TV, Saturday, March" 19, we had as our guest speaker, Mrs. Oliver Bell, of St. Marys, the district chairman of Region No. 2. Mrs. Bell gave an interest- ing and informative talk on her duties as a representative and on public relations, as well as helping to arrange for' the re- gional meeting to be held May 2nd. BRUCEFIELD Brucefield UCW met• in the church hall Tuesday with 24 ladies present. Tuckersmith ladies were in charge of the devotional period. Mrs. McEw- an opened- the meeting with prayer, followed by Hymn 87, and verses 1 to 9 of•Luke '24 were read, and Mrs'.. N. Sillery gave a reading, "The Cross and the Life Today." Mrs. McEwan closed with prayer. Mrs. Taylor took the chair for the business session. The treasurer reported a bank bal- ance of $311.40. Mrs. Berry read thank -you notes from Mrs. Stonehouse, Christine McNaugh- ton, Mrs. Don Brodie, Jack Aik- enheadg- Russell Dallas, Wallis 'family, Mrs. Mary Harrison, E: Elliott. Mrs. Jack Henderson re- ported from, Board of Stew- ards. On motion of Mrs. W. Scdtt and Mrs. 1.-Broadfoot,'two flower tables will be purchas- ed. Instead of visitors at the thanleoffering at Easter, it was decided to have visitors' day in June. Mrs. _ Mac. Wilson-- and Mrs. Fred McGregor gave a musical selection. • The study on Brazil took the form of a panel discussion, "This is Brazil," Mrs. Forrest, Mrs. Greg;; McGregor, Mrs. Lep- pington and Mrs. Betty St. Louis taking part. Rev. Stuart gave a short talk -on Brazil. --Mrs. Taylor closed the "meet- -ing with prayer: Tuckersmith ia.des served lunch. • . FUNERAL MRS. MARGARET STIRLING Mrs. Margaret Stirling, 83, RR 2, Bayfield, died in Clinton Public Hospital Sunday. She wasthe mother of Grant Stir- ling, reeve of Goderich Town- ship, and wa the widoW of a former reeve; James R. Stir- ling, who died in January, 1960. Born in Goderich Township, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs, John Torrance, she lived in the Bayfield area all her life. Surviving besides Reeve Stir- ling,, are four other sons: Fras- er, Robert and Douglas, all of Goderich Township; John, To- ronto; two daughters, Mrs. Lew- is • '(;Frieda) Bailey, . Broadfoot's home„ when Mrs. 13. F. Christie opened witiF, a poelh, "Lent." Miss Abbie Seip took over the business part of the meeting with a poem, "t Had No Time." Tie roll call was answered by 18 members. Mrs. Christie read a letter of thanks from Mrs. Matheson, and Mrs. Berger thanked all who h'ad remembered her while in•. hospital. There were 68 home -hospital calls. Mrs. Christie read letters from the foster child, and the treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Knight. Mrs. C. Broadfoot will be the delegate to Huron Presbyterial at Clinton, March 22. Mrs. Dunlop opened the de- votional part of the meeting with "Blessings" and Mrs. C. Pinder read the scripture, fol- low d by prayer. 1V s. Ken Stewart, the speak- er, took the fourth chapter of the study book, "Engaging the Enemy." Mrs. Pinder thanked -Mrs. Stewart. ST. JAMES' CWL The Catholic Women's League of St. James' parish, Seaforth, met Tuesday evening with Pres- ident Mrs. Frank Nigh presid- ing. Mrs. Michael Williams and Mrs. Arthur Devereaux were named parish visitors for the month of March. A pot -luck supper is to pre- cede the annual meeting, to be held on April 5, when Mrs. James Kelly and .Mrs. Jack Case will be in charge of'tables and' coffee. The nominating com- mittee includes Mrs; Joseph Mc- Connell, Mrs. Janes -'b. .Slattery and Mrs. John Meagher. Mrs. Alice Stiles was named atfditor'• `and conveners were asked to have their reports ready for the annual meeting.' 'A donation was made to the School of Christ fund, and the clothing drive, to be held in aid of the St. Vincent de Paul So- ciety of London. will be in April. Father H. J. Laragh spoke on penance and retreats. The busi- ness part of the meeting closed with prayer. Mrs. Frank Reynolds, enter- tainment convener, introduced the guest speaker, Miss Gladys Thompson, who gave an inter- esting account of her trip to England, Ireland and other Eur- opean countries. Mrs. Frank j.yIgh won the mystery prize, NORTHSIDE UNIT 2, lAtCW Unit two of Northside United IGhurch Women met at the hone of Mrs. Ross Savauge Tuesday evening, Mar. 1. Mrs. Lorne Dale and Mrs. J. M. Scott had charge of the meeting, which was opened by the former, who gave a reading on, "The Eter- nal Things." After singing the hymn, "When I Survey the Won- drous Cross," Mrs. J. M. Scott read scripture verses from the Gospels according to Mark and Luke, based on the Lenten per- iod. Prayer was offered by Mrs. Dale, followed by 'the Lord's Prayer in unison. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by the acting secretary, Mrs. J. Ure Stewart, who called the roll, responded to by, "If given another choice of country to live in, which one would I choose." There were 20 mem- bers present. Correspondence from 'the• fos- ter child in the East was read by Mrs. J. Huggert. It was an- nounced that the Huron Pres- byterial of United Church Wo- men would meet in Wesley= Willis United Church, Clinton, on Tuesday,, March 22, the speaker for the morning being Miss Wilma Thomas, and for the afternoon, Rev. W. M. Car- son, B.Sc., formerly of Landes- boro, and now of Hamilton. Al- so it . was stated that- the Lon- don Conference of United Church Women would be het in Wingham United Ch n March 29 and 30. The thankoffering meeting will be held ,Tuesday evening, March 22 and will take the form of •an International Night. Each inember is'requested to bring a Mrs, Priscilla Elliott, Clinton; Mrs. Grace Sloan, Sheffield. A funeral service was held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Beat- tie funeral home.
