Survey
The Department of Highways
has promised to investigate the
sidewalk situation at Kirkton as
soon as the snow goes in the
spring, Usborne Township coun-
cil were informed at their regu-
lar meeting last week. A survey
will also be conducted by the
Department in connection with
the erection of road signsat
the intersection of provincial
highways and township roads.
The tender of McCann Bros.,
RR 3, Dashwood, was accepted
for the construction of the
Skinner culverts subject to the
approval of the Department of
Highways. The tender price of
$11,755 was the lowest of 10
tenders which ranged as high
as $29,650.
Council.. approved their road
appropriation bylaw providing
for the expenditure of $55,000
for road purposes in 1966, sub-
ject to the approval of the De-
partment and including the
schedule prepared by the road
superintendent.
It was the decision of council
that the tax collector turn in
the 1965 tax roll with a balance
of $6,685.64 uncollected, and
that the tax arrears for 1965
be forwarded to the county
treasurer for collection.
Reeve Archie Etherington•was
empowered to secure two war-
ble fly inspectors. Fed Harburn
of Dublin was re-engaged to
spray cattle for warble fly at
9c per head per spray and sup-
ply rotenone powder.
NORTHSIDE UNIT ONE
The March meeting of Unit
One of Northside Church was
held at the home of Mrs. Lloyd
Hoggarth and Miss Ruth Cluff.
President Mrs. Don Wood open-
ed the meeting with a reading
entitled, "Magic Window." Roll
call was answered by 23 mem-
bers and four visitor's. Roll call
next meeting Is to be answered
with "your pet peeve."
Devotional was taken by Mrs.
E. Williams and Mrs. -J. C. Brit-
ton. Mrs. Williams gave the
scripture reading, followed with
a hymn, "The King of Love, My
Shepherd Is". A"•reading, "Stop,
Look and Listen" by Padre
Young, was• given by Mrs. Wil-
liams. Mrs. W. Ball read :a
poem, "Sunset," • by the late
John Beattie. Mrs. Britton had
charge of the study book. "Giv-
er Of All" was sung. Mrs. Wil-
liams gave the courtesy re-
marks.

Mr. and Mrs. William Wal-
ters visited their cousin, Mrs.
Kervin Werner, in London on
Friday.
Mrs. John Coward visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Bob Bibby
and family, of Kirkton, on Wed-
nesday. • .
Miss Carol Bibby, of Kirkton,
spent the weekend' with Kathy
Hern.
Mr. and Mrs. Gerry Grubbe,
of London, visited on Sunday

for the Spring Club, "Accent
on Accessories," wa"s held. at
Mrs. Jean Lynn's .home. The
mothers of the .10 club mem-
bers were present. Leaders are
Mrs. Ron Fletcher and Mrs.
Jean Lynn.
Officers elected were: presi-
dent, Sandra Dickey; press re-
porter, Kathy. Hern. The roll
call will be "Basic color theme
of your wardrobe." Achieve-
ment Day is May 14. There were
notes on "The Finished Task;"
accessories to complete ward-
robe and wardrobe planning.

contract for supplying , 14,000
cubic yards of gravel applied
on the roads, and 2,000 cubic
yards stockpiled, by Stanley
Township council at their Mon-
day afternoon meeting in Var-
na.
Representative B. H. Homan
attended the meeting, to speak.
in behalf of his company's in-
terests in doing a good job for
the township. The Sandy firm
had the contract last year as
well. Successful tender price,
was 77 cents and 60 cents.
Though Stanley Township
makes a practice of awarding
tenders to the lowest bidder, -in
this case they awarded to sec-
ond -...lowest. Difference in the
total, .amount tendered on was
$60.
Lowest bid was George F.
Elliott, Clinton, at 78c and 50c.
Other bidders were Joe Kerr
Limited, Grand Bend, at 90

turned home having spent three
weeks in Florida.
The flowers in the church on

ory of the late Harvey Turner.

Mr. and Mrs. David Triebner
are vacationing in Florida for a
few weeks.

UCW Meets
The March meeting of Zion..
UCW was held at the Dome, of
Mrs: Glenn Pepper with Mrs.
Lorne McKinnon in charge of
devotions.
A Spring poem waa.,,read by
Mrs. Lorne McKinnon, who op-
ened the meeting with Mrs.
Laurence Barker at the piano.
Mrs. Wilfred Minis read 'the
scripture and Mrs. Lorne Mc-
Kinnon led in prayer., A poem,
"Lent," was read by Mrs. Nor-
man Bushfield, followed with
Hymn 86. An article from
"Homebrew and Patches" was
read by Mrs. Ross Pepper. Mrs.
McKinnon took us on a trip to
Brazil, and a poem, "Promise
of Spring," was read by ,Mrs.
Earl Roney.
Mrs. Gordon Aikens had 'the
business. Roll call was answer,
ed by .13 members, as well as
visitors present. A crokinole
party for the Sunday School
was planned. Arti•eles were
handed in for a bazaar in No-
vember. Mrs. Glenn Pepper
read a lettex from Gloria Ann,
thanking thZ group for the crib
quilts and toys sent to - Bella
Bella Hospital, Mrs.... Gordon
Aikens read the story', "The
Tale Of a Bale."
Mrs. Ross Pepper presented•
Mrs, Alex Roney with a gold
teapot, cream and sugar set on
behalf of the members of the
UCW, on the occasion of her
fiftieth' wedding anniversary.
Mrs.- Roney thanked• the ladies
for the gift.
A quilt was quilted and lunch
was served by tike hostess, as-

meeting, until Reeve Ernest
Talbot arrived. Grants were
made as follows: Huron County
Historical Society, $10; Huron
Central Agricultural,Society,
$35; Bayfield Agriculural So-
ciety, $75.
Warble fly control tenders
were opened, and Harvey Cole-
man, RR 1, Zurich, only tender-
er for inspector, was given .the
job. Hubert Cooper, RR 1,
Exeter, the only tenderer for
spraying, was given the job at
10 cents per head per spray.
Three tenders for supplying
powder were received, with M.
Reid, Londesboro, the lowest at
40 cents per pound.

FUNERAL
MRS. JAMES M. BUTTERS
Mary (Fewster) Butters, of
Street South, St. Marys, wife of
the late James M, Butters, pass-
ed away at the Walsh Nursing
Home, ?ownie Township, on
Thursday, Feb. 24th,- in her 88th
year. Mrs. Butters had been in
failing health for some years.
She was a daughter of the late
James Fewster and his wife,
Ellen Wiles, and was born in
Grey Township on Nov. 17, 1878.
In 1900 she married James M.
Butters and moved to Harriets-
ville, Michigan,- returning to
Ontario six years later. She re-
sided in Belmont, then in Blan
shard and in West "Nissouri
Townships. She. came to St.
Marys some 25 years ago. Her
husband predeceased her in
1948 and a son, Wesley, in 1959'.
She was a member of the Unit-
ed Church and the St. Marys
Senior Citizens.
Mrs. Butters is survived by: a
son, Thomas G., of Dublin, and
a daughter Mary, Mrs. A. W.
Hall, of Stratford; also 10 grand-
children and 23 great-grandchil-
dren.
Funeral services conducted
by Dr.' R. D. Crosby were held
in the L. A. Ball Funeral Cha-
pel on Saturday afternoon- and
interment followed in St, Marys
cemetery, Pallbearers were six'
grandsons, William W, Ronald,
Allan, Glen, Gordon and Wil-
liam D. Butter§.

that point to stop the lamprey
eel. Site is near the bridge
north of Varna on the 7th con-
