tjbli.n Area
With the sale last year to the
Bell Telephone Co. of the assets
of the McKillop, Logan & Hib-
bert Telephone Co., plans are
going ahead for a new dial ex-
change in Dublin.
The new exchange, expected
to be brought into use late in
1967, will serve the area sur-
rounding Dublin, including por-
tions" of McKillop, Logan and
Hibbert.
In anticipation of the new
facilities, Dublin subscribers
have taken steps to ensure that
the service Bell proposes to pro-
vide will include the same con-
nections to Seaforth as are to
be provided to Mitchell.
John Nagle, supervising trus-
tee of the village police trus-
tees, said as many people deal
in Seaforth and are associated
with Seaforth dee schools and
organizations as with Mitchell.
There are as many people west
of Dublin deal in the village as
east of • Dublin, .he said.
Mr. Nagle said a petition be-
ing circulated throughout the
area seeking equal service,
would be presented to Bell
Company officials in Stratford
in a few days. He said the peti-
tion already had some 185
names of area subscribers. He
added that the lists were still
open andothers walling to
sign could do so.
The petition is in these
words:'
"We, the undersigned tele-
phone,,subscribers in the terri-
tory presently served by the
MeK i 1 & Logan
Telepheng Co.,. which is in the
process of being transferred to
the Bell Co., wish to protest
the arrangements proposed by
the Bell Telephone Co. in a let-
ter to prospective customers in
the said, area covering an in-
creased schedule of rates based
on this arrangement of a toll
free area.
"Our objection, among other
things, covers the, following
points:
"1. We do ,not feel that we
should be obliged to pay any
increased rate on the basis of
the inclusion of subscribers in
the Monkton area, we note, that
this is recognized in part by
failing to collect from Monk -
ton users for increased benefit
and we feel that neither is any
benefit to us. ,
"2. We draw your attention,
to the fact that business ih the
area at present served by the
McKillop, Logan & Hibbert
Telephone Company, is' divided
almost equally between Seaforth
and Mitchell with business or-
iginating in Dublin, reaching
almost equally into each dis-
trict. Because of the fact that
the division is clean cut and
of a long standing pattern, in-
clusion of one or the other
and not both, works a hardship.
on half of the community.
"3. Since the business is so
equally divided between Sea -
forth and Mitchell, we feel that
a fair estimate of the value of
toll free areas should be on a
basis of 50% of Seaforth and
50% of Mitchell for purposes
of rate valuation. Failing this
we feel that the toll charge
should remain on both." _
Two things are bad for the
heart—running up Stairseeand
running down people.

Mrs. Mary Maloney (left) and Mrs. Stella Hastings are
busy at the switchboard in the McKillop, Logan & Hibbert
phone exchange in Dublin. The manual exchange before too
long will be replaced by a. dial installation when Bell takes
over the -company late next year. In the meantime, area sub-
scribers have signed petitions asking Bell to ensure that equal
service is provided with Seaforth as is proposed with Mitchell.
