Mrs. Tom Laing presided and opened the meeting with the Institute Ode and Mary Stewart Collect, She presented an in- teresting paper on the motto, "No one is rich enough to be without a neighbor." Mrs. Russell Worden intro- duced the guest speaker for the afternoon, Miss Jennie Hogg, a former teacher at Staf- fa school. She spoke on "This Day 1966," and left everyone present with food for thought. Miss Hogg was thanked and presented with a small gift by Mrs. Tom Laing, A special feature of the af- ternoon was the results of the bulb competition. Each mem- ber received a hyacinth bulb at the November meeting. Mrs. Leonard Strong judged the re- sults and Mrs. Gordon Hog- garth's, bulb was the winning one. Roll call was answered by "Something I have learned from another countryman." Business was discussed and a committee of three, Mrs. Rus- sell Worden, Mrs. Carter Kers- lake and Mrs. Gerald. Agar, were named to look into the possibility of assisting with a booth at the Plowing Match in October. Members were reminded of the next euchre party in Staffa Hal on Friday evening, with Mrs. Glanville's group in charge. Also mentioned was the Food Forum, to .be held in the YWCA, Stratford, on March 15, sponsored by the Home Econo- mics Branch Of the Departmen of Agriculture. Mrs. Robert McCaughy gave a reading and Miss Vera I- ambley gave a demonstration on the tie-dye- ing, the. rolled hem, .and mak- ing hats. All members were pre- serft and answered the roll call with their tie-dyed scarf. The secretary's report was given by Mary Baines. Miss Irene Col- lins, Home Economist for 'Perth County, spoke to the girls on. achievement day in April. Mrs. Laing gave notes on "Hats" and the "Care of Hats," and Mrs. Taylor gave notes on "Shoes" and the • "Care of Shoes." The leader demon- strated how to make and join bias material and each girl worked on a sample piece. The girls worked on their hats, cut- ting them out for the rest of the afternoon. The next meet- ing will- he held at Mrs. Tay- lor's home in two weeks time. Miss Fay - Templeman was a Thursday night guest of Miss Susan Eidt, RR 5, Stratford.
