A tow -ganging fog covered
the river one night and the old
steamboat came to a stop: An
inquisitive .. passenger tapped
the captain on the shoulder
and asked him the cause of
the delay.
"Can't see up the river," was
the terse reply.
"But I can see the stars ov-
erhead," argued the passenger.
"Yes," came back the cap-
tain, "but unless the boilers
bust, we . ain't goin' that way!"
A man walked into a millin-
ery shop and pointed to a hat
in the window. "That red one
with the feathers and berries,"
he said, "would you take it out
off -the window for me?"
"Certainly, sir," the clerk
sold, :We'd, be glad to:''
"Thank you very much," said
the man, moving toward the
door. "The horrible thing both-
ers me every time I pass."

Cduncillor Sillery referred to
an earlier meeting with the
school- board last spring and
said he understood that what
had been done vols -what the
board wanted. Seaforth wasn't
mentioned at that time. The
choice made then was to hold
the township together as a unit,
Councillor Forrest asked.
Reeve -Thompson what the board
chairman had asked him todo
in Go4rich.
The reeve said that he .(Mr.
Alderdice)- had ttold him they
thought it better to split up,
that the township could do a
better job to look after its
own affairs. He said there had
been little time to act on any-
thing.' -
"I swear I did nothing that
wasn't tight, and if it wasn't, then
I didn't know it," Reeve Thomp-,
son told the meeting.
"But that wasn't the, reason
you gave me for not doing it
at Goderich," Councillor 'For-
rest replied. -
Councillor McGregor suggest-
ed the matter of schools had
been settled by the election,
but Councillor Forrest dis-
agreed.
"It is not decide!!. The town-
ship is split right down the
middle," he said.
Reeve Thompson asked whe-
ther a'"board of arbitration
would settle the matter, but
Councillors McGregor and Sil-
lery stressed it was a school
problem. On their motion, the
petition was -forwarded to the
Consultative Committee with
advice to the school board.
In other business, council: '

"The baby sitter should be
here soon. I've spotted her
boyfriend lurking around
outside!"

you ask?"
