Conservatioii Area Road
Colborne Township can't- at
ford to develop an access road
into the Falls Reseive conser-
vatiol) project for' the sponsor-
ing conservation authsrity,
township Reeve Whiner Hardy
said,
The township's failure to pro-
vide the road allowance may
close down the project. George
McCutcheon, chairman of the
conservation advisory board,
told the annual meeting of the
Maitland Valley Conservation
Authority in Brussels Thurs-
day. -
Mr. McCutcheon said that Un-
til Colborne Township provides,.
an access road, six -eights of a
mile long, the 229 -acre Falls
Reserve property cannot be. de-
veloped. The property is on
Lake Huron near Goderich and
Benmiller,
Reeve Hardy said the town-
ship council and the authority
were to meet on this matter
next Tuesday.
The access to the Falls Re-
serve property is a 66 -foot right-
of-way which does not .belong
to the township. A number of
similar rights-of-way exist, lead-
ing to tourist camps, subdivi-
sions and cottage development,
the reeve said.
"If we do the one for the;.:
Maitland Valley (Authority) we
would have to do the other
ones. This is an expense we
can't afford at present," said
Reeve Hardy.

ment of the area this year. ``
Mr. McCutcheon said "it is
difficult to understand the ac-
tion of Colborne Township. If
other municipalities in the au,
thority—some of them 60 utiles
away=are willing to contribute
money to develop Abe area;. it
is strange that Colborne won't
provide a small stretch of road.
With such a development with-
in "its
ith-in'its municipality it stands to
gain the most.”
He said' the authority would
have four miles of road -to build,
after it gains an entrance. "A
grant from the 'department of
highways has been assured
which would pay part of the
township's cost," he added.
The meeting delegated Mr.
McCutcheon and his advisory
board to again meet with Col-
borne cduncil but yeted against
spending any money on devel-
opment unless 'an agreement is
reached...._
"We may have to lock the
gate," said Mr. McCutcheon.
A 'budget of $103,520—up al-
most $30,000 from Iast year—
was adopted. Thanks to grants
available, the net increase to
