THINK OF HIS HAPPINEfS
DEAR DORIS — My son has
taken up with a girl who is
badly deformed.. She has a big
hump on her back on the
shoulder blade, and she limps.
He says he is going to marry
her, and won't listen to our ob-
jections. He says we should
keep out of his business. What
is your advice on this?
Worried Sick
DEAR WORRIED — If he is
16 and ,sentimental, he may be
mistaking pity for love. If he is
26, he may be mature enough
to see and love the fine charac-
ter of a young woman who has
risen above her handicap. Or
there may be other reasons for
this attraction.
Whatever the case, your job
is to get to know her better
before making a judgement on a
physical basis. Make her wel-
come in your home. Cultivate
an open mind.
His • happiness comes first
with you, doesn't it? Does he
know this?
DEAR DORIS — I've been
housekeeper to a friend of my
dead husband for the last 10
years': He is 72 and I am 56:
He has been good to me in
the past, but now he has taken
to scolding, accusing me of
going out with men, stealing
his money. The other day he
told a visitor I went out with a
man last year, got pregnant
and had a doctor help me get
rid of it.
As God is my judge, it's a
lie. I can't go to church but
what he says I'm after a man.
I don't want to walk out be-

Insulted
DEAR INSULTED — Tough
and unfair, isn't it? But don't
you realize this elderly male is
senile? When the arteries to
the brain begin to harden, peo-
ple get queer notions, and it is
common for them to snspect
those nearest and dearest of all
manner of foul play, I'm sorry
to say.
Remember the good things,
and ignore the insults. Go to
church and any place else you
care to. You are blameless.
DEAR DORIS — My sister
and I were very close once but -
aren't now. She squealed On me
a month ago and made my Moth-
er turn against me, and that
started it. My Dad Stuck up for
me, for the first time in my life.
Now she doesn't say a decent
thing to -me. 1 can't stand to
have anyone say anything
don't like because I've got bad
nerves and then I fly off the
handle.
After I'm done yelling I go
sit in a corner by myself and
cry. I am thinking of getting a
place to stay, near my work. I
can't stand it here with so
many buses.
End Of My Rope
DEAR END — A pity. You
will be sisters a long time, and
when you are -both grown up
you will bein appreciating
each other. Right now, Fm
guessing that a long work day
and fatigue contribute to your
grief.
Your sister probably feels
quite powerful that she can up-
set you — which shows her
sense of her own inferiority,
,
really. .
to your Dad about what
hos hoppeood, your grief over
your 'hider,. your Mother's atti-
tude. Unloading will help; and
he might just straighten every-
body out.
Confidential to Wanting to
Quit — To admit you loathe
the smoking habit is the first
step. After that there are Ton-
tines to break, substitutiOns to
make. My leaflet "Why Smoke?"
gives you some guides, and will
be on its way when you send me
Your address on a ,stamped en-
velope.
4 recent survey showed that
77 percent of Canadian men be-
lieve smoking is injurious to
health; this includes both smok-
ers and non-smokers. As know-
ledge increases, though; quit-
ters do not increase nearly so
fast.
What kind of sense is that?
