Holds Annual
Xmas Concert
The annual Christmas con-
cert at St. Andrew's United
Church was held Monday eve-
ning with a good attendance.
Opening remarks were given
by the Sunday School superin-
tendent, Hank Binnendyk, who
was chairman for the evening
and the opening number on the
program was a pantornine by
the nursery class, "My Teddy
Bear and I". A recitation by
Heather McLean and Dennis
McBride of the nursery class,
a tree resital by the kindergar-
ten class, a number by the pri-
mary class entitled "Who Can
He Be" and a pageant by the
junior and intermediate classes
followed.
A tableau and carol singing
by the choir, and then Santa
appeared and distributed treats
and gifts to all the children.
Messrs. Robert and Bert
Thompson visited Mary Thomp-
son on Tuesday, a patient in
War Memorial Children's Hos-
pital, London. She is reported
doing as well as can be expect-
ed and hopeful ofsitting up in
about three week's time.

Use Plastic
Spheres for
Oriaments
Plastic foan 'spheres, readily
available in a v 'ety of sizes at
Clunistmas-time, are a wonder -
full foundation for ornament&
They are especially easy to work
with for they are light, unbreak-
able and have a "spongy" SIUT-
face that is easy to pierce,
For a quick effect, try dotting
a plastic ball here and there
with 'household cement, dip the
ball in a saucer of glitter and
it will instantly be transformed
into a glistening globe.
Or, for a /Piloted effect, en-
circle 'the ball in criss-cross
fashion with narrow strips of
brightly coloured ribbon or
braid, using short - stemmed
bon _ends.
If you want to get a velvety,
fiihreeAdimensional 'effect, snip
the balls from odds and ends of
ball fringe you may have in your
work basket. Then: attach them
individually to ,the foairn by
piercing .with a straight pin.
These .richlooking ornaments
stand .up well from Christmas to
Christmas „ . even the add
tumble from the tree leave‘s
them ,uniscarred.
And for a truly Opulent look,
sequins, Pearly, and brilliantly
coloured beads can be pinned to
the haill — either singly or stack-
ed oneatop the other on a long-
stemmed straight pin. Hung
close to a tree light, these be-
jewelled balls will glow and
gleam. .
A hairpin, sunk into one end
of the ball, will provide an ex-
cellent hook for hanging.

Driving? ?
What Is
Whet will be your most dan-
gerous mile to drive? Will it
be a eurving stretch of wet or icy
read? Will it be a traffic -jammed
stretch adjacent to some stad-
ium? Or some monotonous,
sleep -inducing stretch? or a city
street just 'after the taverns
close? It will likely be none of
these.
The Ontario Safety League
vay's that your most dangerous
mile is your next mile, wherever
or whenever you dtrive it. Haw -
ever good your safety record],
your next accident waits for you
everywhere ahead on the road,
and it is always as close, as the
next mile.
What about this next mile?
The only vehicle which merits
your real concern is somewhere
in that mile. It may be a speed
sten coming like the wind. It
may be a car that attempts to,
pass squarely in your path, or a
car with a drowsy driver, DT one
that stops, *or turns unexpected-
ly in your way. But youcan be
ready for these 'hazards in the
mile ahead.
This next mile is a living,
moving thing, always stretched.
aut there for 5,280 feL Like a
booby -trapped path in a com-
bat area, it can, be traversed
safely only if one constantly
scrutinizes the way immediately

In its simplest terms, this is die-
fensive driving.
Safety is not being able to get
out of a tight situation; rather
it is being able to keep 'out of
one. Worry about that next m!le.
All the others will take care
of themselves. .
