Seaforth Council ata meet-
ing Monday night, took no ac-
tion concerning a proposal by
Bell Telephone to increase
rates.
Bell Canada had announced
Friday that because of rising
costs it had applied to the -Can-
adian Transport Conunission
for approval of higher telephone
rates and charges. The company
asked that the new rates take
effect March 1, 1969.
Under the new exchange
grouping system, part of the
company's application, Seaforth,
will change from old rate group
5 to new rate group 4.
According to W. W. Haysom,
local Bell manager, the rate for
individual residence service in
Senforth would increase from
$4.15 to $4.70 per month. Busi-
ness service would go up from
$8.00 to $10.00 for individual
line service and the monthly
cost of private branch exchange
trunks would change from $12.00
to $15.00.
No change is proposed in the
rates for customer -dialed long
distance calls over 35 miles.
Most calls requiring the ser-
vices of a long distance opera-
tor will be lii,g7her.
The irro)posed rates would
produce a revenue increase of
about 10 per cent. Assuming
they were in effect for the full
year 1969, they would result
in a return of approximately
eight per cent on the capital in-
vested in the business.
