As the Christmas shopping
budget gets thinner and thinner,
hausteholders tviid to igntore war-
ning s.gn.s" on lighting equip-
ment for indoor decoratiqns and
outdoor halitiay displays. The
tendency is ,aftent ta say, "It's
goad enough for another year,"
one, too many years in a row.
"Safety should be 'part cif
everytiody's preparations.," says
R. C. Walsh of London, eilettr.c-
al inspection superintetntient 13 or
Western, Ontario.
"All wiring should be olecktedl
carefully for ,signs of wear, par-
ticularly that used on Christ-
mas trees. Trees cbry out quick-
ly in thomes and 'apartments and
become treat fine hazards un-
less watched very carfuliy.
'"If a lighting set has frayed
wires, cracked or brittle insulat-
ion, bracken lamp sockets or
damaged plugs, throw it away,"
he suggests.
"Another stile sign of trouble
is when a fuse blows afiber the
light ere tured on.
If trouble persists after the
fugal, has been repla.ced and new
equipment purchased, switch to.
less heavily -loaded circuits. Two
further things to- remember, IVIr.
Welsh warned, are never to u -2e
fuses of more than 15 amperes
cal:parity, or indoor light sets for
outdoors.
