44 years, Sam Shinen , was hon-
ored at the .annual meeting of
the Chamber of Commerce, Wed-
-nesday.
Mr. Shinen, the oldest mer-
chant on Main Street; was pre-
sented with a painting by local
artist E. C. Boswell.
In' making the presentation,
Mr. Stewart recalled how MT.
Shinen, a native of Russia, had
come to Seafortir in 1924. Be-

A Seaforth woman escaped
serious injury Tuesday evening

thing had gone wrong with the
steering. Brought to her home
in .Seaforth, she was admitted
to Seaforth Conununity Hospi-
tal Tuesday evening with sever-
al fractured ribs.
. The accident occurred short-
ly after 4 p.m.'on Highway 4 at
the,‘, north end of the Hayfield
Rivet bridge.
A witness told police that
Mrs. Pringle's car was travelling
north, veered out of control and
across the roadway, jumped the
,curb, travelled across a sloping
lawn and up a sharp 15ifoot
bank.

Appointed Judge
Announcement was made on'
Friday of the appointment of
a Seaforth native, Donald H.
DONALD H. SCOTT
Scott, as •county court judge
for the County of Lincoln.
Judge Scott, a son of the late
Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Scott, receiv-
ed his education at ,Seaforth
Collegiate, University of Toron-
to and Osgood* -H,all, where he
graduated in 1950.
Following graduation he
practised law in Fort Erie and
since 1956 has been ,Crown At-
torney for Welland County. He
represented the province be-
fore the Supreme Court when
the Trusoott case was referred
to that court for a decision:'
Judge Scott is -married to the
former Francis Hamlin of Chap-
leau and they have three chil-
dren, Heather, Bruce and Jen-
nifer. James R. Scott and Harry
Scott of Seaforth are brothers.
Vandals Damage

Police are investigating van-
dalism a Seaforth Lions Park

Annual Meeting
Members of the McKillop Fed-
eration of Agriculture held their
annual meeting and banquet in
the Winthrop United Church,

Hunter, Goderieh, brought
greetings from the county. Oth-
ers who spoke briefly included
Reeve Ken Stewart, David In-
gles from the Department of
Agriculture and Food, Clinton"
and Robert McMillan who had
attended, the Vineland Confer-
ence. The minutes and financial

statements were given by Alvin
Dodds.

that the C of C programs were
dictated by the extent to which
it received support. and urged
an increased membership and
participation.

the C of C in the community.

County 4-H Agricultural Club
members who completed a pro-
ject in 1968 will receive their
awards. Of the 425 4-H projects
started In • 24 4-11 Agricultural
Clubs last spring, 95 percent
were concluded,.
McKillop Returns
Allan Campbell
Allan Campbell was elected
McKillop reeve in Monday's
vote. He defeated a fellow mem-
ber 9f council, Harold Dodds, to
fallow ,Reeve Ken Stewart as
council head. '
The two members of the pre-
sent council who ran — Ralph
McNichol and Wm. J..Leeming
— were re-elected as well as
two newcomers, Harvey Craig
and Arthur. Anderson:
Interest in the election was
high as nearly 75% of the vot-
ers turned out.
In the vote to'elegt two school
trustees, John Henderson came
in second place winning over
W. Norman Counter of Cli,nA
ton by one vote. John Levis of
Clinton headed the polls.
D. J. Murphy led John Mor-
rissey in the toymship vote for
separate school representa-
tive on the county board, Fran-
cis Hkknell earlier had been
elented by acclamation -to the
Huroir-Perth Combined Separate
School Board.

Mrs. lilarilyn Kunder, sole Sea-
ford' candidate in the five -man'
race, headed the polls in Sea -
forth and as well led in total
votes. John Broadfoot, one of
two candidates from Tucker -
smith, won the second position
on the board., .
The turnout of slightly over
70% contributed to long lineups
at Seaforth polls and resulted in
a four hour delay m vote tabu-
lation. It was not until after
3 a.m. Tuesday that final re-
sults for. Seaforth were avail-
able. First returns from polls
5 and 6 in the town hall were
received by returning officer
Ernest Williams about 1:30- a.m.
Polls 3 and 4 reported an hour
later. -
Longest delays occurred at
polls 1 and 2 when voters stood
as'long as an hour waiting for
Leonard Erb, 289; Harold
Knight, 223; George -Beer, 220.

As a result of the delay's,
some electors gave tip - after
waiting and 'didn't vote. •Others
made several trips to the polls.
Contributing to the delay
were the variety of ballots that
required attention. Seaforth
public school voters" marked
four ballots • while separate
school supporters were given
five.
Among the: oldest voters to
exercise thell' franchise in Sea -
forth were Mr. and Mrs. David
Ryan, Goderich Street East, who
both are over 90. •
