By a remded vete of 35-4,
Huron County Council deelded
at Goderich last week to contin-
ue to study the feasibility of
amalgamation of health ser-
vices between one or more of
the neighboring' counties with
a view to Presenting further de-
tailed information for the- con-
sideration of Council.
Those who voted against the
reconunendation of th,e Board
of Health were James Arm. -
strong, Clinton; Borden Cook,
Blyth; Harold Robinson, How -
ick; and Leroy Thiel, Zurich.
Early in 1968, Cennty Coun-
cil rejected a recommendation
of the Board of Health that the
Counties of Perth and Huron
amalgamate to form; a health
district. Since then, however,
the County of 'Perth has been
declared a health district and
is entitled to additional. subsi,-
dy in connection with expendi-
tures.
Clifford R. Dunbar, Grey
Township, chairman, of :the
Board of Health, Painted out
that Huron Board hadeontinued
to pursuehe subject asatereault
of this development, "The Bhard
approached Hon. C. S. Mac -
Naughton with the proposal that
Huron County, also be declared
a health district.
"It appears," Mr. Dunbar said,
"that the Provincial authorities
,are not in favour of declaring
Huron County a health district
but rather suggest that Huron
County should amalgamate with
Perth to form the Huron -Perth
diatrict as originally proposed."
The Board of Health, he stat-
ed, had some doubt as to wheth-
er the original rejection related
to amalgamation or only to the
proposal as submitted by the
'Board. He said that Mr. Mac -
Naughton has indicated ' that
further discussions are likely to
take place in the near future so
the Board recommended keep-
ing the door open.
Mr. Dunbar commented that
there waS* "a modest alnetint of
money" involved in the feasibll,
ity study.
"I would saylhat the county
of Bruce may be in the market
for amalgamation with Huron
and Perth," he •added.
