Character — is not what you are
thonaht to be, but what you are. It gives
you courage.
Perqeverenee — is anotbgr great as-
set. There was never a truer word said
than "There is no royal road to learn -
Free Thinking — is important but
some of today's student rebels are re-
belling -against established educational
practices but so far have offered noth-
ing of value to replace what they wish
to tear down. I have -'exti•eme difficulty
accepting their boast that they are non-
conformists. Take the "Hippies", If you
AT a hippie, you follow the rules of
the hippies so that anybody across the
continent will recognize you as a hip-
pie. In other words, to. defeat conform-
ity you conform to something more
rigid than anything against which you
are rebelling. The worth of individuali-
ty has been lost. We must regain it and
it will not come from the rebels. fa
Career — There are many jobs open
today -- so be discriminating — choose
carefully — get all the information pos-
sible about your proposed .choice before,
your final decision. Unskilled jobs are
fast disappearing and even skilled ones
require' re-training.
Your progress may be interrupted by
something unforeseen. There is no need
to wait with folded arms. Seize the op-
portunity of these new events. You may,
be more successful in this than in what
you had planned.
You need to adopt principles from the
past, adapt them to changed conditions
and add a few tricks of your own to
face the novel situations' of to -day's
world.

men of the past had sincere motives —

Rifort — These ard' the days when
we haye to keep running just to stay
where our fathers finished. Qlder gen-
erations 'did not have to face the in-
creased amount of knowledge, the ad-
vanced stage of education given to
every pupil, and the pressures of ever-
changing. Everyone should strive not
,necessarily to be -great or to be assoc-
iated with the great but to -be greater
than he now is. !Toy in living arises
from having a purpose. An old Chinese
saying expresses it thus), "Great_ Souls
have wills, feeble ones have wishes".
Desire must be intense enough to pay
the price in study and work and devo-
tion to progress. A person of quality
is not content with mediocrity. He may
have to sacrifice secondary things no
matter how pleasurable they may be
and even suffer a- little to reach his
highest potential:
'Continuance of Learning -- A pro-
fessor once told my class "We have not
educated you or given you all the facts
you will need: We have just shown
you how you can find the information
you will need as you, keep on learning".
And as the years passed I realized how
right he was. All life is a time of learn-
ing and re -learning.
A Broad Base — A many faceted- ed-
ucation. Do not just take the subject
necessary for your chosen career for, '
if you include subjeats which will add
to a general 'education, you yvill be bet-
ter able to develop specific skills.
These, she concluded, are Things of
Value.
