A Schedule of mininnnn rates
.for compensation bas been in
ettent -since 1951 with periodic
adjustments. The latest. revi-
sions were u.eeesaitated by tn.
creasing values of arable land
and changing farm 'technology.
Negotiations between rePre-
eentatives of the 011ta4e Feder-
ation of Agriculture and, the
peblicly-owned power syatem
have been in progress for sever-
al months. Satisfaction eves ex -
Pressed by officers of Ohtario
Federation of Agriculture that
agreement had been reached
and it was believed that the
new schedule would bring com-
pensation more accurately in
line with current values.
As in the previous echedule,
compensation rates would vary
with the category of land trav-
ersed. Payment for a tower on
the better arable land would
increase from $210.00 to 6315.-
00, whereas a single pole on
open arableland would increase
from $14.00, to $2800. Occupa-
tion rights on the easement and
other compensable items such
as anchors would have compar-
able increases.
The farmer would have the
choice as in the previous sche-
dule of a full and final payment
or payment for a twenty-year
period at a lower rate and a
further paymentat the expira-
tion of the period.
The schedule is payment only
for the right to occupy and use
the land. The farmer is still en-
titled to claim additional sums'
for various kinds of loss and
damage if such occurs. Such
items have never been included
in the schedule aS' their extent,
can not be known at the time
the easement is acquired.
