Students Gather At Dublin
Students from across Canada were in Dublin last week as representatives to the National
Conference of Young Christian Students being held in Dublin Continuation School. The four-
day conference considered problems related to the teenager as seen by teenager t themselves.

of ersmith were in Toronto
attending a complimentary din-
ner being given his brother, Dr.
W. J. McIntosh at the Inn in the
Park.
Dr. McIntosh a native of Tuck-
ersmith, is retiring and the din-
ner attended by 100 was arran-
ged by his collegues in the
teaching profession. His wife
is the former Ann Haugh of
Tuckersmith. 4
A recent issue of the Toronto
School. System magazine refer-
red to Dr. McIntosh as follows:
, After 39 years in the teaching
profession, Dr. John McIntosh,
Inspector of Schools,. will 'retire
in August of this year: He
taught in vocatioital schools in
• the Toronto system for 23 years,
spent two years in rural schools
in- Huron County and 14 years
as a School Inspector in North
York. •
Dr. McIntosh was born and
educated in Seaforth, Ontario.
He is an Honour Philosophy
graduate of Victoria. College and
an. M.A. graduate in Social Phil-
osophy from the University of
Toronto where he also obtain-
ed his Doctorate in Educational'
Psychology. Dr. Mclintosh Is
the author of a number of pub-
lications and articles on special
education; general editor of
Canadian Ginn Basic Readers,
1962; and a contributor for
many years to the work of the
Canadian Committee of the
Council for Exceptional Child-
ren. He is a former President of
the New Education Fellowship,
Toronto; Ontario Federation,
Toronto lTeachers' Council;
Council for Exceptional Child-
ren; Chairman of the Interna-
tional Relations Committee,
Council for Exceptional Child-
ren, Washington; and member
of Phi Delta Kappa Educational
Fraternity; member of Accredi-
tation Committee, Ontario De-
partment of Health, for homes
and institutions for emotionally
disturbed children arid member
and past chairman of the Spec-
ial Education Committee of the
Metropolitan Toronto School
Board.
In recognition of his many
years service on behalf of ex-

the offices and presses of the
Huron Expositor. The following

The WIVIS met at the home of
Miss Olive Speare when 12 mem-
bers and three visitors were
present ahd the roll call was
answered with a. verse on "un-
ity". Mrs. K. McKellar presided.
Mrs. Grace Scott had charge of
the study lesson, taken from the
first chapter of Deep Wells.
The subject"The Prisoner" was
presented in dialogue form by
Mrs. Scott, Mrs. Lammond, Mrs.
C. McKaig, Mrs, R. Dodds, Miss
Olive Speare.
Business was conducted by'
the president, Mrs. Lamond.
Mrs. McKaig reported four vis-

Forest Valley Outdoor Educe -
tion Centre on June 4. Dr. F.
W. Minkler, Director of Educa-
tion, in his presentation address
on behalf of educators, admin-
istrators and friends, paid tri-
bute to Dr. McIntosh for his
valuable contribution to and
leadership in the development
of the Special Education pro-
gram in the North York school
system.'

• James Sarsfield Barry, 71,
died Wednesday at Seaforth
Community Hospital following
a lengthy illness. .
Born in Cargill and educated
in Clifford he was a cobbler and
later,engaged.in cabnet making.
He had been a resident of Sea -
forth since 1931. Ill health forc-
ed his retirement in 1960. -
He was a member of St.
James' Roman _Catholic Church.
He served with the RCE over-
seas from 1940-45 during the
Second World War. He was a
member of the Royal Canadian
Legion, Branch 156, Seaforth.
Surviving are his wife, .the
former Laura Stade to whom
he with' married' in Clinton in
1922, one daughter, Mrs. Angus
(Phyllis) Brown, Seaforth; four
, sons, Gerald S., Orangevill; Ken-
neth J., Seaforth; Ronald W.,
Sarnia; Stanley F. Watford; one
sister, .'Mrs. John (Margaret)
'Keeis, St. Catharines; one broth-

grandchildren.
The body was at the R. S. Box
funeral home here, where
Branch 156 Royal Canadian Leg-
ion conducted a service Friday
eyening. Funeral service was on
Saturday with Rev. H. J. Laragh

was sung at St. James' Roman
Catholic Church at 9 a.m. and

cemetery.

MRS. JOHN C. COCHRANE
The death occurred Friday in
Huronview, following a long il-
lness of Mrs. John C. Cochrane,
80.
Born in Kippen, she was the
former Jessie Elizabeth Mc -
Beath, the daughter of the late
Alex 1VIeBeath and Elizabeth Mc-
Durmid. With her husband, she
resided on the family farm in
Stanley mitil their retirement
to Seaforth in 1947.„ She was a
member of Northside United
Church and of the UCW.
Surviving are her husband, to
whom she was married in Stan-
ley Township in 1915 and one
daughter, Mrs. Elmer (Audrey)
Cameron, both of Seaforth; two
sisters, Mrs. John (Mabel) Jar-
rott, Guelph; Mrs. Alvin (Rena)
McBride, Exeter and one grand-
daughter.
The body was at the R. S. Box
funeral home, where private
service was held Monday after-
noon, conducted by her minis-
ter, Rev. J. C. Britton. Burial
followed in Baird's cemetery.
Pallbearers 'were Jack Farqu-
har, Douglas Dick, Alex Me -
Beath, Edgar Smith, Alex Mc-
Murtrie and Stuart McBride.

MISS HELEN LnIIKIN
The death occurred in Riv-
erside Hospital, Toronto, on
Monday of Miss Helen Larkin,
following a long illness. She
was in her 78th year.
. The daughter of the late De
F. H. Larkin and Mrs. Larkin,
she was born in Chatham, but
grew up and attended school in
Seaforth where her father was
minister of First Presbyterian
Church for many years.
Miss Larkin was a Registered
Nurse and served at a number
of hospitals across Canada and
in the States. For a number of
years prior to her retirement
12 years ago she was engaged in
social service work.
She is survived by two sisters,
Mrs. W. W. Moffatt and Mrs.
Howard Kerr, both of Toronto.
Following private services in
Toronto, on Wednesday the re-
mains were cremated and inter-
ment was in Maitlandbank Cem-
etery, Seaforth.

The warm sunny weather of
the week has accelerated the
'haying operation in the cowl-

portion of the crop to go in.
Corn and white beans are
growing well in all parts of
the county.
Spring grains look very' good
with all of the crop approaching
the milk stage. Some barlage
will soon be harvested and put
into silos at approximately 55%
