Hon. Charles MatNaughton,
Provincial Treasurer and MPF"
for Huron, spoke before intro-
ducing the meeting's guest
speaker, Eric Winkler, MPP for
Grey -South, who had resigned
as AIP to run provincially in
Grey - South. Mr. MacNaughton
described Prime Minister Tru-
deau as "an enigmatic swinger
with less than two years exper-
ience in the federal government"
who "hasn't really known up to
now how old he is."
"The election on June 25th is
the most important decision
making process Canadians have
faced in many decades. The two
political parties are now polar-
ized and there is a -clearer choice
than has existed for twenty
years." Mr. MacNaughton ad-
ded. "I don't want to take time
discussing or even admitting
that there is a third one."
He said that steadily increas-
ing federal and provincial taxes
were caused by the Liberal gov-
ernment's unrealistic social wel-
fare programs. The Treasurer of
Ontario said that the people of
this province would face the
equivalent of a 24% increase
in personal taxes if the federal
government were to proceed
with universal medicare.•
According to guest speaker,
Eric Winkler, "People.' who are
not governed by tradition are
governed by force." Mr. Wink-
ler criticized the Criminal Code
ammendments proposed by the
government as "tampering with
the basic tenets of our tradi-
tional way of life". He referred
particularly to the abortion re-
form laws, Mr. Winkler said.
Mr. Winlker denounced the
regionalist policies of the Lib-
eral government which result
in Ontario being considered a
prosperous industrial area and
thus prevent rural Ontario from

About 1,000 people greeted
Mr. Trudeau at Mitchell where
the Prime Minister received a
chocolate bar from a young ad-
mirer. A number of people lin-
ed the roadside as the cavalcade
travelled Highway 8 from Mit-
chell to Seaforth. The Prime
Minister got out of his car to
talk briefly to farmer Lorne
Aitkens and his wife just out-
side of Mitchell. School children
stood along the Side of the road
in Dublin as Mr. Trudeau pas-
sed slowly along the highway.
Approximately 2,000 people
and a large banner which said
"Welcome Trudeau" greeted the
Prime Minister in Clinton. A
large number of school children
and personnel from CFB Clin-
ton were in evidence and be-
fore he concluded his short re-
marks in French Mr. Trudeau
said that the people of Clinton
could well appreciate the im-
portance of one united Canada
because of the number of peo-
ple from both ethnic groups who
had served at the air base.
In the Village of Blyth, the
Prime Minister was received by
about 800 people and shook the
hands of a number of fans. Mr.

a few problems. According to
Mr. Britten, the deed read, "If
services are not held in a year,
land must revert back to the
heirs." When they sold the
church one of tile heirs, .Mrs.
Henderson, was hi receipt of
everything, according to the
deed, but she refused to have
anything to do with the sale
and gave' the trustees the priv-
ilege of selling.
Arthur Campbell, owner of
the lands surrounding the
church bought the property and
the money for the sale went to
build gates to • Maitlandbank
Cemetery.
Mr. Britton's records point out
the unique spelling of the late
1800's. When there were two
"s's", such as in "session" ,one
of them became "f" so that the
woivl would then tread `sefsion,.
One of the mainstays of to-
day's churches, the organ, caus-
ed the resignation of the first
session elerk of Duff's Church.
Mr. Britton related, Council
wanted an organ and they peti-
tioned a session to get an organ
but the session turned them
down. A year liter, they asked
session for an,organ on a year's
trial. Session agreed to let them'
have it. Once they got the or-
gan in,. they wanted it for a
long time."
Council's reasoning was that
the organ replaced the singers
who for various reasons would
not show up at church service's.
This usually caused a delay in
the starting times of church
services. But, council reasoned,
- an organ would enable services
to start on time.
"It seems funny now," said
Rev. Britton, "but it was a real
problem."
In he actual wording of the
session clerk, John Kerr, the
protest against the use of the
organ read, ". . . there, is neith:,

"You can look back to 75
years, the story is still there,"
,the minister said.
Mr. Britton said it was a
shame that such a memorable
church should disappear but
"the Duff community is indica-
tive of the change in rural life"
where the trend is towards ur-

places disappear,
