Mr. and Mrs. Dave Netzke are in London this week at Westminster Hospital, while Mr. Netzke is in the hospital for an operation. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Stone of Brampton visited Mrs. A. Hud- son. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holroyd, Janice, Douglas spent the week- end with her mother, Mrs. A. Hudson. Mrs. Henry Smith of Calgary, Alta., visited her many friends in town on Tuesday of lad week. Dr. and Mrs. H. M. Bowers of Toronto . visited with Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Adams on Tuesday. Mrs. Bowers is a cousili of Mr. Adams. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Walters and family of London, spent Sunday with Mrs. W. C. Ben- nett. Miss Valeria Drope visited Mrs. Bessie Wurm on Tuesday. Mr. Joseph Commerford of Stratford spent the weekend with hi S grandmother, Mrs. Bes- sie Wurm. • Mrs. Marjorie Willis, Sea - forth, was slightly injured in a three -car collision which oc- curred on Highway 8, west of Sebringville about 6 p.m., Sat- urday. She received bruises and cuts but did not require hospital treatment. He car was damaged to the extent of about $400.00. Harvey Greer, Dale Gordon and Carmen Ferguson of Little Current, visited during the weekend with the former's par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Greer. Mrs. Betty Felkar of Trenton and Mr. Reg Tebbutt of Lon: don, spent Mother's Day with their mother, Mrs. Catherine Tebbutt. Council agreed to purchase a duplicating machine from A. B. Dick Co. for $542.90. The Huron County Municipal Officers' • Association Meeting will be held in the arena on May 22 beginning at 10:30 a.m. Councillor L. F. Ford requested that the arena be cleaned up for the event. He said dust from roller skating was settling on the seats and would have to be removed. Council referred to the plan- ning board, a request from Clarence Martin to selI part of his lot on Franklin St. Councillor R. Dinsmore re- ported the clean-up campaign was coming along "fairly well". He said three days, have been set aside for pickup of garbage in three different areas. May 15 was allowed for the area from Goderich St. nort to town lim- its; from Goderich St. south to railroad tracks on May 16; and •May 17 from the railroad tracks. • Councillor J. C. MacLennan reported that no one on the police staff would be off duty during the 100th Birthday cele- brations and also asked council look into the possibility of hav- ing a plaque erected to com- memorate the event. Clerk E. M. Williams will look into the costs of such a plaque. The public works committee • informed council it will plant 25 trees along with the 25 trees of the Chamber of Commerce, install lamps on West William St., obtain oil and tar for the streeth and told council that dogs now running at large may result in charges being laid against the owners. Reev-e Dal- ton, committee chairman, sug- gested this would be more ef- fective than impounding of dogs. A letter of appreciation from the -Chamber of Commerce re- garding Chamber of Commerce week was received by council. Councillor Dinsmore digres- sed by suggesting council spon- sor Mayor Kling in the Seaforth High School walk to Bayfield. Huron Liberals, he said, need to increase their grass roots ef- fectiveness and to establish strong :Young Liberal and Lib- eral Women movements. Mr. Edgar, who was described by his nominator, Robert Mann, as "one who gives to others", is a former director of the Kins- man Club and is chairman of the Huron Chapter of the Can- adian Cancer Society. Murray Gaunt, Liberal MPP for Huron -Bruce who spoke dur- ing the tabulation of the, bal- lots, emphasized the new youth and vitality of the Liberal par- ty. Mr. Gaunt said that for the "first time in many years the Canadian people have an alter- native". The four unsuccessful candi- dates addressed themselves to local problems and gave an out- line of their policies in their speeches prior to the balloting. A. W. Currie, an economist who has served as an advisor to several Royal Commissions and to the governnielit of Nigeria, said that rural difficulties are problems of economics, not of production. Charles Thomas, - a former p'resident of the Huron Federa- tion of Agriculture, described farmers as 'those who work harder for less" and said that these inequalities should be remedied. Dr. Frank Mills of Goderich said he was contesting the nom- ination because Prime Minister Trudeau represented "a long xeeded change in the political tone and climate of this coun- try" and advocated Federal aid for the prevention of air and water pollution, control of land and money speculators and in- creased support for farmers. - Rev. J, C. Boyne of Exeter, who was an unsuccessful NDP candidate in the last election, said his decision to join the Lib- erals came .as a result of what he saw as a shift of policy with- in the Liberal Party and expres- sed his endorsement of Medi- care, the Canada Pension Plan, . Old Age Assistance and the pro- posed ,ammendments to the Criminal Code. For the first.time, delegates were present at the nomination meeting from McGillvary and Biddulph Townships, Ailsa Craig and Lucan, all of which are now part of Huron riding.
