The Huron County Municipal
Officers' • Association Meeting
will be held in the arena on
May 22 beginning at 10:30 a.m.
Councillor L. F. Ford requested
that the arena be cleaned up
for the event. He said dust
from roller skating was settling
on the seats and would have to
be removed.
Council referred to the plan-
ning board, a request from
Clarence Martin to selI part of
his lot on Franklin St.
Councillor R. Dinsmore re-
ported the clean-up campaign
was coming along "fairly well".
He said three days, have been
set aside for pickup of garbage
in three different areas. May 15

like ARDA. He described Prime
Minister Trudeau as "the only
man who can successfully insti-
gate this new era of political
life in Canada."
Huron Liberals, he said, need
to increase their grass roots ef-
fectiveness and to establish
strong :Young Liberal and Lib-
eral Women movements.
Mr. Edgar, who was described
by his nominator, Robert Mann,
as "one who gives to others",
is a former director of the Kins-
man Club and is chairman of
the Huron Chapter of the Can-
adian Cancer Society.
Murray Gaunt, Liberal MPP
for Huron -Bruce who spoke dur-
ing the tabulation of the, bal-
lots, emphasized the new youth
and vitality of the Liberal par-
ty. Mr. Gaunt said that for the
"first time in many years the
Canadian people have an alter-
native".
The four unsuccessful candi-
dates addressed themselves to
local problems and gave an out-
line of their policies in their
speeches prior to the balloting.
A. W. Currie, an economist who
has served as an advisor to
several Royal Commissions and
to the governnielit of Nigeria,
said that rural difficulties are
problems of economics, not of
production.
Charles Thomas, - a former
p'resident of the Huron Federa-
tion of Agriculture, described
farmers as 'those who work
harder for less" and said that
these inequalities should be
remedied.
Dr. Frank Mills of Goderich
said he was contesting the nom-
ination because Prime Minister
Trudeau represented "a long
xeeded change in the political
tone and climate of this coun-
try" and advocated Federal aid
for the prevention of air and
water pollution, control of land
and money speculators and in-
creased support for farmers. -
Rev. J, C. Boyne of Exeter,
who was an unsuccessful NDP
candidate in the last election,
said his decision to join the Lib-
erals came .as a result of what
he saw as a shift of policy with-
in the Liberal Party and expres-
sed his endorsement of Medi-
care, the Canada Pension Plan, .
Old Age Assistance and the pro-
posed ,ammendments to the
Criminal Code.
For the first.time, delegates
were present at the nomination
meeting from McGillvary and
Biddulph Townships, Ailsa Craig
and Lucan, all of which are now
part of Huron riding. Hibbert
